    Default whats best for lighting

I've heard its best to do three 600's like hps-mh-hps but a lot of people just use hps does it really do better having some blue light from the MH in flower I'm not sure what to do I have switchable ballasts just wondering if it will yield more or better potency it does make sense cause they get a broader spectrum of light than just the red from hps I was also thinking of putting a 400 in the center of a 8x8 or if I should do 4x12 with hps-mh-hps I got plenty space for both

i would make all 3 horizontal lights hps and hang dome 125-200w veg spectrum cfl's in the canopy. i use the ratio of 3-1. having a mixed flowering spectrum is always better.

Have not been able to prove this out on a grow...tried 2-600watters HPS and a single 600 MH and my yield was a little smaller 3 oz's per plant...but no two pheno's are the same and there were other influences on the grow....but certainly don't feel it is necessary....I do believe you as I have read all the studie's....just in practice not proven...I do not like the dual lamps I am an engineer and feel the mix is not evenly distributed with my xxl hood's....When I put my lux meter in the space it made hot spot's and did NOT blend well! w/1000 dual arc the lumen's at 1 foot went from 86,000-120,000 (sylvania 1444) my luminex 1000 watter is 155,000 at almost all location's varie's 5-7% no hot spot's! If you use give me your reading's and your yield statistic's per plant per grow if you can I would really apreciate it! not locked in my thinking just careful with change until proven thru application (don't care about what is said to happen I live in the real world not a lab!)...I've been growing over 50 year's and feel my openion's are valid...wishing you the best with your grow my brother! and if you have first hand info I will be very pleased to talk to you as I have gone down this road in the past with no difinitive answer's...allway's room for improvement!!Thank You jack

Do you really feel the need for the cfl's?? are they reptile UVB for resin production? what yield's do you get per plant? size of plant's are we talking 30" or are we talking scrog or sog? two lights in sun circle have better coverage than three stationary and uses much less power! and of course allway's horizontal or you can't cool room! I have tried mixed and yield was less...actuality vs principal......real life....my yield's are large and big tight bud's is what we "Growers" do not vege.....If you have first hand knowledge give us some specific's not say it's allway's better..bad statement no paramaters set! put your grow up and we'll talk yield vs "stratagies" reality vs fiction..I have tried both MH HPS and Dual arc in this senario and have failed to change my thinking...the proof's in the pudding!! qty-yield-cost-efficency-consiistantly constant! wishing you the best with your grow however you choose!!Keep smiling!...jack

i've got an idea...how about you put your grow up and we can all talk about that. you want me to do your homework for you? check around...mixed spectrum lighting is more beneficial to flowering plants. hps bulbs have a limited blue and uv spectrum of light. this is why you see the trend toward led, cmh, daylight blue mh bulbs.

i've been doing this for 12 years and have tried a number of different setups. hanging vertical cfl bulbs for a mixed spectrum and to reach lower canopy is beneficial to plants. i actually hang 400w mh bulbs and us uv lights above the canopy for trichrome enhancement (not production).

as far as "cooling" the bulbs...that's why i recommended cfl's and not mh bulbs. in my case i have enough cooling i don't need to worry about the added heat of vertically hung 400w bare bulbs or 100w uv flood lights.
