Default So here's what I'm working with
I'm finally getting my life back on track after some shit, long story. I got a good job and I'll be getting some fat paychecks. For the time being I just have a small cabinet I could use. The dims are 53.2 cm wide, 60.2 cm deep, 2 m tall. Now I know that HPS would be better for flowering so I wanna give my girls the best I can. My goal is to get the best bud I possibly can with what I'm working with. I know I have enough height to throw in a hydro system if I want. My big question is do I have enough room for a 400w HPS? I know I could pick up a few more 400w's when I get a place with more room so I could expand my system.

cfl's would be a much better choice for the space, and you can always use them for seedlings and clones later. You might want to check out SeeMoreBuds new book, Marijuan Buds For Less. Get started small, get the experience and then move up as you have the room. SeeMore gets 8 oz of dried bud from three female plants using 8-42 watt cfl's for less than $100.00 VV

you can do whatever you want to man....long as you put your mind to it.

400 would work, hell a 600 watter would even work. the trick is to air cool the lights.... its a must when in tight spaces

Hehe. I have excellent plans for you. Lower that top shelf a foot or so. Put down some CFLs, set this area to be lights on 24/7. This will be your vegging area. The bottom area? Pop a 400 watt HPS inside. That will be your flowering area. You get where i am going with this? Get this right, and you could harvest every 8 or so weeks.

i disagree l.b. wow that rhymed....anyways
with a space that small you could easily line the box with mylar(but that white color on the inside would reflect light just fine and save some cost) then buy a raw ballast to stick in the top up there with an oscillating small fan on it.
i wouldent use a reflector at all as the space is so small that it wont be needed.
then just vent the whole area with a 250cfm that fan most people use, an dadd one more smaller one of air outtake to create the vacume air pressure that is desired in a op.

sounds good too....
id say keep a small mom in the veg so you can just start flowering right away as soon as clones root, in a prepetuall manner so you can harvest something every 2 weeks instead of starting more and waiting for them to veg and THEN flower.
keeps me from running out of bud so often and my op isnt even fully perpetual. lol

you can always use a homemade cooltube outta them pyrex baking things...

trust me, seen it done....

need some ideas? International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums - ICMAG'S OFFICIAL ~DIY~ LINK-O-RAMA

i really think if he wants to run a 400 or 600...he will need some type of glass around that lightbulb with it being cooled down.

otherwise it will be hotter and more humid than some girls pussy in the summer time while she's wearing leather pants.

The only problem I would have is that I don't have a place to vent, obviously. I was thinking the CFL's originally. Good point, I can always use them for vegging later on anyways. I have a small .32amp 12 volt pc type fan, it didn't say cfms, maybe I can find the specs on it later. To save some cost I'm making my own shelf with the same dimensions as the others. In this shelf I thinking of putting this fan on one side and a carbon scrubber on the other. The shelf unit is not flush against the wall. With this being said I'll simply let the air escape through the crack. I'll seal the carbon scrubbing unit on top, venting up and away, in this way it'll create a proper vaccum. Sealed correctly can I juse use the cracks to cycle the air? Obviously its small so I don't think I should have a problem. At this point I'm just making a list of all the stuff I need to do it as cheaply, but good as possible.

I just saw an interesting article on the DIY article about the security light. They have a 75w or 150w one that can be rewired. Fuck, then I'm gonna have to cool that one anyways, I just need to bit the bullet and make a decision, haha.
