After a successful first bagseed grow in soil and perlite under cfls i progress to my second grow.
This time a Wilma 4 Pot Hydroponic Flood and Drain system with a 600 watt HPS in clay pebbles. Seeds = Blueberry. So, the problem is that I have a limited grow space of 75x75x200 so I have room to buy the BudBox Medium Grow Tent. Would it be recommended to put a 600 watt HPS in this tent as it says on the description "400W is possible but make sure you have good extraction" If it is what sort of ventilation am I looking at for such a system with plants like Blueberry. Also would you advise 4 plants at once in there Thanks in advance. Last edited by StealthHawk; 01-28-2008 at 12:33 PM.. Reason: More Accurate |

heres the problems I ran into when using the tent.
1) heat issues using a 400 watt MH, I was never able to close the tent because the temps would sky rocket. 2)plants are hard to get to after first row. 3)6/8 plants are max(not LST/clones) I grew out of my tent(got 15 plants going) but I'm still using the frame of the tent to hang my light on-comes in pretty handy. the tent is a good buy if 1-2-3 is not an issue for you.

I guess 600watt HPS would have heat problems in such a space without some serious extraction. Also I could understand the problems of not being able to reach the rear plants.
I'm not sure what else I could use though if it wasn't a tent. Any suggestions with room being limited to 75cmx75cmx200cm? Baring in mind I need to fit in some sort of carbon filter too. Thanks Last edited by StealthHawk; 01-28-2008 at 02:05 PM.. |

Yea, I wouldn't recommend a tent ever. I'm forced to use one because I rent... the tent at least looks like a portable wardrobe or something and is better than just having huge pot plants in the room, in the event of a landlord or maintenance man having to come into the room.
I'm currently using a 450watt and a 250 watt HPS and the entire bedroom gets to about 90 F and 60+ Humidity(with no exhaust).... I have my plants veryyy close to the 450 watt not by choice but they just grew that big. I have 2 fans on their tops to keep em from being scorched. All in all, they're terrible for managing air unless you buy a good one and can rig up exhaust to leave the house you're in. The walls are normally water proof so they're air proof too... if you want to ever zip it up you have to extract the air and have a cool air supply.

I am worried about the heat that is going to be accumulating in the tent because it is very much a stealth grow so I was hoping it would be light tight.
Im thinking its going to need some serious extraction which is going to make lots of noise I expect? Any advice perhaps a change of grow room? How do you guys with big HPS lamps get away with the heat? |

blasphemy!
i say as long as you can cool the tent, you're good!!! Im not talking no bullshit fans. You will have to spend money, especially for quieter fans. Find a fan that will move that air no less than 3 or 4 times a minute...or some shit like that...im high. good intake, better exhaust...and you in there! i would suggest a window air fan or something of the like...to also change out the air as well in the room. as far as silent? i've heard of elicent fans are quiet, next i've seen sunleaves windtunnel...but im not sure. and i've also heard vortex are good too... you know opinions are like assholes....everybody got one, good and bad. try one and rock with it. your mileage may vary man. you can also use acoustic/insulated ducting (black on inside for lightproofing or helping). use rubber grommets, hangers, hooks, clamps. EVERYTHING rubber so that it will absorb that vibration. hell you could even wrap the fan if you want. when you mount the fan....mount some or some vibration/sound deadening material between the floor/surface and the fan.......whichever hopes this helps! i have a hydro hut (52"*52"*75") an i have 1000hps with a vented hood. i have a 8" flange an a can fan8" sucking the heat out of the hood and throw it out the tent. have a carbon filter hooked 2 a 6" fan 4 the exhaust. the 8" hood fan also serves 2 purposes for sucking fresh air in with the other side 2 the hood is open an can suck air in threw the vents
