'Smartest' way to grow autoflowering plants?

Does anybody have insight on what they think is the smartest way to grow autoflowering plants? I know they stay short and compact, but i'm confused as to how I can utilize light most efficiently. Do you prefer 400, 600, or 1000 watt HPS? I think it would be best to start them in a rockwool cube, but after ten days just stick them in some soft soil, adding nutrients only for a week or so atleast 10 days prior to harvest. Is that correct?

I usually just buy my weed and I only like the good stuff. Do these little guys really produce the quality I get when I buy 400/oz buds?

How much do you think I could yield from 1 light?

Thanks so much for any help. I'm somewhat a newb. + rep for anyone that helps.

got four Diesel ryders about to finish, haven't smoked em yet but they have been fun to grow, i started nuteing mine around day 25 or so, check out The Art of the Auto thread, tons of good info on autos there.
btw i use a 400 watt mh for the first few weeks
then switch to a hps
