What causes the purpling of the stem?

Just out of curiosity, what causes the stems on my clones to go from green to purple? They seem to be healthy, just with purple stems now as opposed to green which they were last week. I've heard "immobile elements" is the reason and all sorts of shit to explain it, anyone know?

If you are not growing a purple phenotype the purple stems are a potassium deficiency that is starting to show up. If left unfertilized the purple will spread to the leaves too. If you have just rooted the clones this is to be expected and will correct itself when transplanted and feeding resumes.

Thanks buddy, good info. I've noticed this for a while and it was somewhat bothering me.

Phospherous deficiencies can cause stems to turn purple in the early stages. Another reason cold be the soil is too cold, which could be the case if left outdoors overnight. Acidic soil can block important nutrients. I recommend you adjust PH to 6.5 and feed with a high phospherous nutrient.

Scratch soil PH, I just saw the word "clones". You are going to experience some deficiencies with clones, as they have no roots yet to take them in. You should avoid foliar feeding of clones for at least two weeks, until then, keep them damp.
