Exclamation Hard Dirt
I know this may seem like a pointless noobish question, but is it ok if the dirt around the plants, on the top layer of the soil is hard as a rock, well not as like a rock, but when i poke it i can bearly get my finger in 1/2 inch is this bad, will the roots be strong enough to get through this?? any replys would be helpfull thanks.

Think of it like this. You plants are going to start off like babies. Would you place babies on a hard surface like asphalt? Hopefully not. They are tender and their roots need soft soil so they can grow.

Where did you get the soil? Is it just dirt from your yard?

yes hard soil is bad and your plant will probobly struggle to get through it.. you want to make your enviorment easier for the plant to grow in, while it could still survive it will not be as healthy

try breaking it up with a fork especially around the edges. If it gets hard again you probably have a lot of clay in your soil and will wqnt to replant.

Here it is again ...

2 parts Schultz's Potting Soil Plus.

1 part Perlite.

1 part Vermeculite.

1 part worm castings.

One SMALL handful of Granulated Dolimite Lime per two gallons of soil mix.

marijuana loves this mix. You should be able to find everything at your local nursery.
While there, also buy a moisture meter and follow it for your watering schedule. Its a must.

You won't need any fertilizers with this mix for about 45 days.

For fertilizers use at 1/4 strength throughout the grow (after 45 days):

Vegging: Peter's "Jack's Classic 20-20-20."

Flowering: Peter's "Jack's Classic Blossom Booster 10-30-20."

Here's where you can order the ferts via mail: http://www.jacksclassic.com/
