I intend on posting this in several forums to try and receive any ideas or answers upon the subject and I need desperate help with this.
Recently I have been having problems with my internet and @ first it caused me no concern whatsoever, just inconveince……I use mozilla firefox and when some select pages finish loading it shuts the entire firefox window out…… Ive looked at all the setting on my computer and they haven’t been changed and are set the way it was before the problem started occurring.

Recently I downloaded limewire and a hash making video that I used to have on my old pc. I only got limewire because I wanted the specific video and I didn’t remember the web url, so when I finished with limewire I deleted it (just don’t care for the program)

I asked a friend of mine that knows everything about computers from the ground up and he said that it sounds like someone got my ip address and are using it to fuck with me…….
So if this is so how would I go about preventing it, and what access would they have to my computer.
My friend couldent tell me. Im assuming since they can close firefox then they may be able to browse other files that I have on my pc and some of it I wouldent want other untrusted eyes to be prying into……..
Im thinking that someone may be trying to monitor my activites because of the video that I downloaded from limewire…… I know limewire isn’t that dangerous because of the video but the fact that I downloaded it and I just got dsl last week from my phone company and I don’t know if they screen anything that is being viewed/downloaded by their customers or not. The way they told me to set the dsl up called for setting the ip address to be aqquired automatically, so I am also assuming that this built a network directly between my pc and something/someone at the phone company.

Any ideas, suggestions, ANYTHING would be appreciated.
I don’t have internet explorer to try it with.

im not professional, i do troubleshoot comps at my work of 20+ employees and I do not think someone has your IP and is closing your firefox on you (remember i'm not a pro, my best looking fixes are usually fueled by google)


my assumption is you have some malware/spyware or something that has corrupted your firefox. (limewire is a very easy way to get unwanted stuff like that on your PC)

Do you have windows firewall on (if you do then that makes the IP thing more unlikely i believe)?

Try uninstalling your firefox, and downloading the latest and installing it. Download windows defender from microsoft, and do a google search for AVG anti-virus and download their free anti-virus software.

run scans on those, re-install, and you should be alright.

thought about that too so i scanned it and it came back with 150 fucking infections...... so i corrected them all and it still happening. the firewall is on. i was already planning on re dowloading firefox tonight because thats the only thing i havent tried yet.

Sounds more like you've had that comp a long time and its accumulated a lot of nasties.

Which program do you use to scan?

Hopefully re-installing firefox will fix it. I feel pretty confident in saying that your computer is not being watched, its most likely a software/hardware issue.

Does IE do the same thing? Firefox is generally not as suseptible to things like that. Most of the time its just some sort of corruption. Download webroots spysweeper, it does a good job. If your a clicker that clicks on every link that you get in your email, this could certainly cause you problems. These 'select' pages could be the problem as well, firefox does have problems at times with certain websites that use ActiveX. If it does it on some and not others. A good example would be M$ website.

Go to Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com and get Ad Aware and Spybot search and destroy. Install, update and run them both. After, go to housecall.antivirus.com and run a free scan (Note. no www or http)

If it still happens after that, thank your luuky stars you have a back-up and then reload the operating system.

if all else fails....reinstall windows with a fresh copy!!

ZoneAlarm anti virus + Firewall works real good too.. Tells you when someone is trying to make contact with and enter your computer..also lets you encrypt or hide your IP.
