ok so i was just in my grow room and high at the same time,,, bad combo i know but what can i say. anywhoo i got to thinking, ive got 2, 1000watt hps lights. and that equals a ton-o-heat. ive got mine in cool tubes so it not that big of a deal. ive got them about 1' over the plants and alls well. but ive heard that lights lose 1/2 thier lumans or par rating over 1'. so ive got 300,000ish lumans total, but only 150,000 getting to the plants. i was thinking what a waist that is. if i could get my lights down into the plants thats gota be a good thing.
so i started to play with the idea of useing fiber optics. seems that you could get the light as close as you wanted then with no heat at all. even to the bottom branches where light wouldnt ever get a chance to go. granted fiber optics are a bit on the pricey side, but if it would work i could get 2x as many lumans as i am know for the same ele useage. and be able to grow buds from the top to the bottom of the plant inplace of the top 16" or so.
anywhoo what do yall think. ever heard of it being done before?

HHMmmm, thats some fantastic stoned thinking, it's good to hear I'm not the only one that comes up with weird but sometimes clever thoughts.

Pot is for opening the mind hey? Or so I told Mum.

Fibre, if you could some how funnel the light into a strand would give u what your looking for in the way of lumens though I'm not aware of any devices that could funnel or disperse the light at either end.

I'm a data tech and I reckon I'd love to have you pay me for that the amount of cable you'd need!

you could channel light where ever you wanted with the optic without a doubt, but to play devil's advocate, what would happen to the lumens? optics are heavy as all hell so how are you going to suspend them in your grow area? i just think it would be easier and more efficient to just plug in a cfl and put it lower to hit the lower foliage.

true allmeat,, it was just a thought.ima firm believer in there is always a better way. ive got a fiber optic x-mas tree, and just thought about how neat it could be to have a fiber optic grow room. prolly didnt help much that i just watch some DIY show on how to make your house totally fiber optic. in the show they had a 2500 square foot home lit up by 1, 250watt light. it was one of those super energy saveing homes. you know one of those that cost 200% more to build so you can save 5% on you ele bill. lol

that would be the coolest thing in the world to have your house lit by one light. I guess you could do an experiment with optics. after christmas tear apart the tree, build a box where the bottom is the only thing open, drill a hole in the top to channel the optic wires threw, put a little plant in there and put a light on the othre side of the box, and only use the optic wires for light transfir. sounds feasable. i wonder if the glass in the cable would limit the lumens coming through? some in theory should be transfired. hmmmm, it should work. lol I guess 2 stoners can accomplish anything if they put their minds to it

would it be cheaper to create a christmas light chain to hang round the tree but use eco lights

haha meat,,, sounds like you smoke my kinda pot. lol who knows if it would really work or not, but wouldnt it be saaaweet if it did. i may try a few things after x-mas, just to see.(i get bored very easily) i can see this idea turning very quickly into a frankinpot experiment with all kinda of jacobs ladders around. a plant with bolts in its nodes with jumper cables runing to some kinda lightining rod. lol
