Using led lighting meant for video Production
Hello, Im looking into these LED lights meant for photography and video, they put out from 500-1000watts, but are a bit pricey. So my question is for the GURU growers, what do you think of these lights for a grow ????? link below

They're absolute crap. You're only getting 1/10 of the wattage labeled, and that's with crap diodes that aren't worth shit.
"Their energy efficient design draws just 50 watts for the 500 Watt head..."
Keep an eye out for bold faced lies and attempts to play them off like this... LED distributors do this often. I hate it when they pull this bullshit!
For $600 I would expect about 200-300 ACTUAL watts of LED powered lighting using quality, high powered diodes. You can pick up a few older generation UFO's for that much.
Here, check this out, two minutes on Google and look what I found, a 4-band 90w UFO for only $188 with free shipping.
That's nearly twice the energy consumption, I bet you it's more then 3x the light output, and in the right spectral ranges for photosynthesis.

Thanks for the reply man,
So from what you are saying, they are weak still for what they are really meant for ?

Yes, I've seen LED lights that put out more light, and of the right spectrum for use in video production. They're meant for warehouses and stuff, so they need to be bright enough to keep workers from having accidents.
Watch out for LED suppliers, there are MANY con jobs out there promising far more then they can deliver. There are only a few companies who make truly bright and energy efficient LEDs.
If you're going to invest in LEDs do look at other people's grows, there are many here on RIU. Pay attention to the successful grows only, notice which brand of LED was used, also how many bands and at what spectrum.
