Default White paint on walls - flat or gloss?
OK, I've read a couple of different places on here that you should paint your walls with flat white. I beg to differ. I don't know a lot about *successfully* growing MJ but I do know a bit about paint. "Flat" "Satin", "Eggshell" and "Glossy" is are terms that refers to the finish of the paint after drying. The reason you can have different finishes is because of the pigment grind; a coarse grind will give a flat finish; a finely ground pigment will result in a gloss. Gloss reflects more light - period; flat absorbs light and, what little it does reflect, it reflects at oblique angles, resulting in loss of lumens. Gloss is also a lot harder to get dirty and a lot easier to clean. Just my 2 pesos.

You want to use Flat white. I think i read it reflects up to 90 percent of the light.

Well I must be wrong; shiny reflects less light than dull. BUT for those that want more proof:

Its not the amount of light its the spectrum. Gloss absorbs more of some part of the light waves you don't want gone. I am positive extensive research and results with both growing cannibus has been done. I use the panda plastic. But then I'm not a painter. VV

Panda plastic has a shiny surface doesn't it? If you guys want to believe that glossy paint absorbs more of a particular spectum of light or that dull paint reflects more light, go ahead. I did study spectrophotometry in college; it's all about absorption and reflectivity. If you can show me where I'm wrong I'll... I'll get my sister to give you a bj. ...and I'll admit that I was wrong - but I'm not. ...oh wait, I don't have a sister. White is going to reflect most of the light that hits it and a glossy surface is going to reflect more of it than a dull surface. I'm not trying to be a prick; just trying to clear up some wrong information that is being propagated - like farting on your plants, LOL.

94.61% of all statistics online are made up. As for paint, I went with SEMI GLOSS. Try wiping a wall down that was painted in flat white and you will see why I dont use it.

Thank HoLE! I love the avatar; brings back fond memories of our 70's band "Stash". Mr. Natural was our mascot. Chosen you are absolutely right about the semi-gloss; it's much easier than trying to clean a flat white surface.
