okay, my plants are almost mature enough to pull clones from, but not mature enough to tell sex, i was curious when i pull a clone an put a light over top the dome should it be on for 24 hours while it is rooting and then do 12/12.. or can i put the light over top on for 12/12 so it immediately starts to flower/show sex.. i was reading about this some where but ant to make sure.. some of the clones arent being used for sex but used to growing IF female.. bad to go back into veg from 12/12 or should i clone 1 12/12 clone it, if female pull more to clone an grow?.. thank you

From what ive read about cloning its smart to put your clones on a veg light cycle until they get a nice root system. As far as showing sex i did see a video of a guy cloning to show sex and to grow, I dont recall what light cycle he had them on but ill try to find it again for you.

Alrite, i just checked out that video i was talking about. He clones a mother thats about a month old and still in veg. He leaves the clones in veg cycle for one week. Then throws them on 12\12 to determine sex..hope this helps.

you should put the clippings in 24\7 until a few roots poke through. when they can survive without foliar feeding (or humidity dome for that matter) you can put them in darkness for 24 hours and move them to 12\12.

thats the fastest way to determine sex.

However, a plant that is month old already should be under 18\6 (usually) and by the time the clones root and starts to pre-flower the mother plant should be at about the same stage.

If you'r using 24\0 light for veg it might help but I never noticed any difference in growth (unlike many other claim) so going 18\6 seems cheaper and easier for me. Less light, less heat and preflowers does shoot faster.

Cloning for sex is a reliable method when selecting a mother plant.

Personally I do not do it. I consider it a bad use of time and a waste of cuttings. If you clone for sex, that's all the clones will be good for - sexing. Growing out immature female clones will result in stunted plants.

Reverting the sexed clones to veg will stress them unnecessarily and wastes time.

Better to use the law of averages in your favor. Once you induce flowering, males will almost always show first. Then you may clone the remaining plants with a reasonable expectation they will be female. When the mother plants flower, you are free to select your permanent mother from one of the not-yet-flowering clones.

What I do is wait until the plant shows sex. You may take cuttings from the plant before it goes into full-blown flowering phase. In fact, I have taken cuttings from the not-yet-flowering portions of full-flowering plants.

Good luck and good growing.

I dont know what kind of faith you fellas put into your genetics,I switch the whole group into flower until they show sex then the males are killed and the females are returned to 18/6.I dont really want to waste time cloning to determine sex.I clone to mass produce. The movie he is referring to is "I Grow Chronic"You can watch it on youtube.com.Peace

From seed when I can I just let the plants show pre-flowering BEFORE moving to flowering. That way they kick into flowering faster and take less stress.
Usually the preflowers show when the nodes starts alternating so either sign is fine by me.

When I start from clones its irelavent as the actual age of the plant is way past the 1-2 months since sprouting.
