Bought Some New Lights, Strange Colors

Okay I had two 24" flouros and one 18" flouro, the 18" wasn't called a "plant light" so I bought a gro-lux bulb for it. I am now 20 days into flowering and decided to go out and get some more lights. I bought another 24" and another 18". All the bulbs produce a "natural daylight" bluish light but I decided not to buy another gro-lux bulb for the 18" and the bulb it comes with produces a very yellow/orange light. Is this good for flowering, or is it just a cheap ass bulb. If it is good for flowering, should I take the gro-lux bulb out of my other 18" and replace it with the yellowish bulb it came with?

Orange/Red is the ideal color spectrum for flowering so no prob with that, what u might consider is HID lights the dif in yield will be huge, imo Fluoros are good 4 clones and for veg (if u can´t afford MH/HPS) but when it comes to flower and u want to make the most of your plants there is nothing like HID dude...

Clones and Veg Cycle - Blue color spectrum
Flowering Cycle - Orange/Red

Altho lots of growers go all the way with HPS (red/orange)

I know I know I know, I can afford it, but it won't work. My plants are growing in a rubbermaid tub and it'll melt, and you need ballasts, and stuff and yeah. Anyhow I hope it all works out :)

But will the plants get heat damage from being 1" from or even touching a 400w or even a 150 MH or HPS? I would think so.

1" yeah but i have my girls about 6" below a 400w HPS and i can tell u that i have no heat probs...it´s all in the ventilation....if u run a couple of fans u wont have any prob...if a 400w is to big get a 250w HPS...they put out about 25 000 lummens and almost no heat and to get the sme results with fluoros u will need lots and lots of them...so think about it, cause HID does pay off.....btw what are the dimensions of ur room???

I have to chime in and say that the HID bulb heat is easily mitigated with the proper ventilation (as stated above). Check out some of the hoods that are made to have the ducting pass air in and out right near the bulb. When they are chambered like that , and have a thin glass plate below to isolate the air, you can get a 1000W hps suprisingly close to the babies. Note: this ventilation would be IN ADDITION to the regular fans that are circulating air.

All I can do is suggest you look into some hoods that would fit for you. Cheers!
