Nice KB, after looking at many peoples grows and seeing my shitty 4 net pot dwc, I'm going to buy a decent output airpump and switch to 4, 5 gallong buckets and grow them in that. I will have zero space with what I have.

Your setup is pretty inspiring though! Thanks for the info.

AK was very interesting. I devoted an entire grow to it, because I was interested in its story. I got 4/4 females. Very interesting phenotypes.

There were:

'The Crustacean' - Very dense super smooth sugary buds, went to flower and finished very fast but small yield. (pic 1)

Large sativa dominant (pic 2) that took an extra month but made huge buds with incredible stone. I don't care how 'weed tolerant' you are, this will make you lose your direction!

There was 'the Grape' which was this really nice indy/sativa type bud and we also did some clones in soil which really came out tasty (pic 3 pic 4 is clone of the Grape). The best smelling and aromatic of the lot. Great stone as well.

The Grape I took to Hempfest and up to Vanc. BC to Cannibus Culture. I remember at Hempfest talking to a vendor and him bitching "There's no KIND bud up here". I whipped out a mason jar of the Grape, cracked the lid and said "You mean like this?".

how did you set up your dwc system? I would like some details because i am planning on re doing the flowering room and i would like to play around with making my dwc systems a bit better @ the same time. that external pump...how does that supply the water with oxygen? I am assuming a bubble wand/stone in the reservoir for the external pump?

Hi Kochab.

The pics I've posted should give you a good start, esp the ones that have the drill sizes on there. You can get almost all of it at HomeDepot and a good hydro store.

DWC actually uses three modes of oxygenation.

The first is when water is drawn through your inert material. This gives you some oxygen.

The second is the oxygenation you add to the water. This gives you a lot more oxygen.

The third is oxygen from the air (where your roots hang down before they touch the water). This is the best oxygenation. BUT the roots have to stay moist.

I use a reef pump (already pictured) for the second part. I use two airstones per bucket. You have to have well oxygenated water b/c in 3 weeks 1/2 the roots are basically sitting in water (well at least some of them), and they love it.

The pumps are Hydor and although come as submersible they will convert to an external. These my hydro store doesn't stock but I get at marine depot (google and you can order off the web).

Peace,

Killbud

Ok, today I'm going to Lowe's so I can get a much bigger reservoir for the plants before they get much bigger. Their roots are already awfully close to each other and I want to let the veg to at least 13" so I know I have to get bigger reservoirs for them.

KB, how do you handle those plants when their root mass gets so insane during a reservoir change?

Oh you're going to love this.

I never lift a plant except in emergencies.

I have a hippy slick method using a waterbed hose. The end just happens to be 1/2 inch which fits everything.

It's two way, so you can either suck water out or put it back in.

I first drain the hydro using the suction part.

Then put water back (from the top) reversing direction. I flush the plants with the clean water for 1-4 hours, suction out, then use my res to refill.

Res is done in similar fashion. I lifted that shit for all of two weeks before I had to find a better way.

I dunno if you can see in the pics but there are valves that I turn on or off to direct the flow of water (so I don't suction from the res when I'm just trying to suction from the plants).

I see no point in lifting a plant unless necessary. I usually never look at the roots unless something starts to go wrong. I have had one instance of root rot (my first grow) and that was because I had an unvented 1000w halide running the room at plus 90F. Other than that, zip.

You have to have a sink or something to screw into closeby but it works awesome! I think it came with the sink adaptor or you can get at Lowes. About 30 bucks, so well worth it. I found this at an aquarium store, maybe you could search online or something. Gotta be easy to find.

Everything else you see I put together myself.

These pics are a week from the last.

I moved WN back a bit and moved them apart. Once I know how many fem's I have I'll do the final adjustments before starting training. The soil is in the corner. Man, I really suck at soil. heh heh...

I put in the second light (600w HPS). Drove the room temps up 4 degrees. The water is running 2.5 degrees behind (pic). I am going to work on reducing that by making the res system active and put it on a timer to change the water once daily. It will help stabilize ph n' stuff too.

I don't know if I should swap out the 1000WAgroSun for another HPS. I have 'em both so no big, but has anyone used the AS through flower?

The Willie Nelson is growing a little more than an inch a day and not in flower (gulp). I will be starting the 12/12 2morrow.

Camera was cold and got fogged initially but I thought the shot looked cool.

yea, that adapter is easy to find. they sell it at walmart in the aquarium area for people that have more than a couple fish tanks and don't wanna do all the water hauling. they call it the water python or something like that at wallyworld. i think it's even cheaper, like about $20-$25.

Hey mang(s)

Argh, crappy crappy times. So far 2 males 1 female. I'm worried the Willie might have a willy too.

Well, I got 4/4 fem's last time I grew so I guess this balances it out. I have clones of the SC, here's hoping she's purple. 2 plants left and that soil.

Check out the roots on the one I pulled. First time I ever saw 'em. LOL...

I had my first batch of bubble hash as consolation tho! It was 50% Kali Mist NUGZ that got screwed up (molded but more odor, none you could see) and 50% assorted trim.

It turned out freakin great, the key is starting with ice cold water. We used a hose and man I swear it was 40f.

So gotta roll with the news. Bummed but oh well...
