How much do you have spend on equipment?
SOIL: Fox farm oceans forest ( no nutes for a month after you repot them in this soil it has a some)
NUTES: I use Fox Farm line does great for me i start out with 1/4 strenghth from a month after i own the clone and increase with every week small amounts not to over nute the plant.
LIGHTING: There are a bunch of different pick one that is best for your budget (cfl, hps,mh)

6x90 watt cfls 6500k 1xmetal halide 400w thats the veg side now the flower
6x90 watt cfls 2700k 1Xhigh power sodium
Remember you only need one ballast 400w that fit metal halide and high power sodium all the same with this set up you can not go wrong and should cost no more than 399 GBP
this set up you would use time and time again only replacing the bulbs when they go

You want him to get 12 90watt CFL bulbs and a 400w? why? First off whats the size of the closet? why not get a 600w? hes got a 1000 bucks he can go on craigslist and get a 600w for like 175 bucks or what about 2 4OOwatts? Why does he need CFLs for flowering??? Why not just get 6 CFLs for the veg side and the 400w for the flower side?? I dont see a need for getting CFL's for both sides? and 400 bucks for a 400w with ballast and some CFLS?? naaaa he can do better than that with a little time and reasearch and looking around......

Dude i would do a some research before you go out and buy all those CFLS and a 400w.......If it was my 1000 bucks I would not spend 400 of it on what hes saying.........You need to give more details about what you want to do....maybe you dont even want a veg room maybe you want to do one grow at at time. Maybe you dont even know enough to know if you want a veg room..........I wont suggest one setup over another I dont know what your trying to do but i will suggest do some reading and chatting and figure out whats best for you......

If your grow is successful you will really wish you had bought a stronger HPS. Price difference between 400 watt and 600 watt systems is usually nothing and yield increase is considerable. 600 watt also converts power to light more efficiently than 400 watt systems. I would highly recommend an aircooled hood. A real one, not cooltube. Decent inline fan and carbon filter and you should come in way under $1000.

i got a 400 watt hps system, fox farms soil, tiger bloom, dyno-gro, and some perelite, my closet is ready, all lined up with reflective material, just need to buy the clones and hang my lamp...which reminds it got dip-n-grow for the clones. i also have fans and thermometer/humidity gauge ...... i still have lots of money left
