| | Cooling down my room. PLEASE HELP ME!! | | Its not long, it just looks long, please please please read. I really really need help. OK, so i had 2 1000w HPS in a 4x8x8 room. They just had the regular old metal "wing" reflectors on them. We had fans on either side blowing at the lights then 2 box fans just blowing air. No exhuast or intake...we were just testing to see. Anyways, in a matter of minutes the temp was up to 110 and rising every second. We decided we only needed 1 light. But my QUESTION IS...those reflectors that you put a exhaust and duct work and all that on there...about how much would that drop the temp? That sucks all the heat away from the light before it even gets into the room right? Someone please help, i need to drop the temp alot and quick. Has anyone had this problem with that reflector then switched to a vented reflector and how much did it cool off. Short of adding a AC unit in the wall how else can i get rid of that heat. And if i do need an AC unit how big do i need for a 4x8x8...a 5000btu. Please help me out. |

| | Get the air cooled hoods man, they do make a difference - those bare bulb reflectors are crap for small areas - you need at least 150 to 200 square feet to be able to pull those off, and that is with decent ventilation.
If your grow area is 4x4x8 - I would only use one of those 1000 watters - that's a pretty small box for 2000 watts - you could save some power there.

| | Hey guys thanks fo the help. We took the ballast and everything to a local hydroponics shop and he put an aircooled hood on it. It has an intake and exhaust and a 6in Vortex fan. This is just my first grow and i had no idea how hot those things got. It makes sense why every grow room i see has hoods like that, they are a must. Thanks for the help everyone, everything is good to go now. Ill try to have some pics on tonight and get my journal started. Oh, and 1000w hps is good for about 30sq ft right? I know 2000w is better, but this saves us about 400 bucks for right now, we can always get more later. |

| | You would be better off getting 2-600 watt lights for an area that size. 200 watts more power used, much closer to the plants with the lights, more usable light. You could even put them at two different heights, in case all of yoor plants aren't the same height.. You might not have had this problem at all if you had gotten the 4'-8 tube T-5 light.
