Welthink Ballasts WARNING

"I believe the "20" ballast that got fried, were modified by SUN PULSE to run there junk bulbs."

I'd still like to hear the details of this modification, now there is a mod to run different light bulbs, I still don't know any reason why anyone would do this or any reason why you'd need to change the circuit to change to a different brand of bulb. It all sounds like BS to me.

call me extra paranoid but i wouldnt be giving out specifics of my order or conversations with whoever this Sonny guy is. you are posting on a MJ growing site and if you piss him off enough couldnt he just forward your info to the local LEO?

Call me dumb but if he'd turn him in then he also has the address of the business that could be burned to the ground when he got done fooling with the cops or other such fun tricks. Usually being a narc isn't the smart thing to do, and what is sonny going to turn him in for, buying some lighting he was going to use in his yard or donate to the little league baseball diamond ?

was just making a point not trying to start an "e fight"

OK, so where is Sonny??? For a guy who stands behind his products warranty he sure is scarce around here!!! Considering that he is well aware of this thread you would think that such an upstanding individual would come screaming to defend his products name and make the situation right?? Sonny / Welthink your band name is being affected here in a highly negative manner and you ignoring the situation is not helping you out! Address the situation at hand and honor your products warranty!!!

As you can see from his lack of attention to this matter, clearly Welthink does not stand behind their product!!!

Hi all

I bought 6 of them 2 1000W and 4 600w all dimmable 1 1000w burned out i called the factory rep and sent me a new no ? asked i have had no problem the rest, i talked to the rep and he said the company tecks. said the timer was the problem and that was the only 1 running on a cheep timer the rest are on wall Mont hard wire timers the funny part was i never said any thing about timers and they did not know i was running it on a cheep harbortools plug in timer they said the cheep timer problem was low voltage because of leakage i am not teck but it makes sense but i did not have to send the bad 1 back so i opened it and it looks like a bad capacitor hard to tell because there was some black plastic or acrylic covering most the inside of the ballast, a friend of mine works at electronics repair shop looked at it and agreed ha said if he can get some of the plastic off he can fix it. however after all is said and done i am happy with them. i met sony after i bought my ballast from him at a trade show in boston Mass and i think he is a respectful person and stands behind what he sells i am not a dealer i went to the trade show
to see the new things that mint be good and this is my 2 cents however i dont see how they mint modifided the
ballast the inside is coverd with black plastic or acrylic i have seen the inside and when i get a chance i will post a pic you can see the inside for your self

I purchased 20 1000W ballasts from Welthink in Virgina Beach, VA. Within 6 weeks ALL 20 failed, one almost burned down my house. These units are serious S**T!!! To top it all off when I called Sonny (ironic name) at Welthink he told me that the smoked units were not covered under the 3 year swap out warranty they claim. He tried to feed me some bulls**t that the damage wasn't covered and that I had tampered with the units. Having not even seen the faulty units, I find it hard to believe that plugging them in is considered "tampering" with them.

Save your money and buy a ballast from Lumatek or another reliable source. These Welthink made in China crap ballasts aren't worth their weight in horse s**t.

Were your ballasts the 120v-240v type? Did you have them properly set to your voltage? Was your circuitry installed by a qualified electrician? Do you know what size wiring is required to run all of those ballasts? What is the amperage rating of each and the wire size supplying them? Are you in a house? If you are, you you are probably drawing at least 160A which is more than most houses can supply.

KAWGOMOO IS A FRAUD, WELTHINK STORE SUPPLIER ON EBAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OFCOURSE THEY DEFEND THE PRODUCT, THEY SELL IT LMAO. NO AFFILIATION, ONLY AN END USER RIGHT KOWGOMOO? SWITCHED A LETTER AND CAME ON HERE AND LIED, SAD INDEED. ANYONE NEED ANY HELP ON WELTHINKS LET ME KNOW, MAYBE SONNYS NUMBER? I CAN HELP
Sorry it took me so long to reply to this, and kick a dead horse at that.

Kawgomoo is not Sonny. And yes, Kawgomoo IS an ebay seller name {mine} and yes i sell welthink ballast.
Switched a letter and came on here? Are you retarded? They are spelled the same both here and ebay, and ive been registered here since 2006 and much longer than that on ebay. Get your facts straight fruit cake.

But i dont HAVE to sell them, i choose to. I like them, they work good and Sonny has always treated me right and helped me out.

If a ballast died, he honored the warranty. No questions asked.

He has even offered to pay/repay the return shipping to my customers for his products that fail.

I would like to say failures i feel are pretty low, we sell ballast every day. But we get returns about twice a month. These returns are 1 maybe 2 ballast tops at a time.

We are on the 6th generation of 1kw ballast now. Welthink is no exception. The road to a stable 1kw digital ballast was fraught with frustration.

Right now i would like to put it out there that Ushio is the bulb i recomend for pain free digital ballast ownership.

Anyways most the claims in the thread are just down right wrong, untrue and at best stupid.

Call the police? Really? Nobody cares what you do with these lights. People from all walks buy/use/own welthink lighting. From commercial growers of fruits and veggies or wild flowers to your farm clubs, high school and college horticulture programs right on down the line to your Caregivers and closet growers.

Dont get it twisted. These are just my opinions. I cannot speak for Welthink, i dont own or have stake in there company. I just sell there stuff, and i believe in it. Does that really make me a fake liar or fraud?

One last point. For anyone that thinks Sonny and i are the same person, i invite you to talk to the man for 5 seconds on the phone. It will then surely be clear who is who in all of this.
{His Phone number is clearly listed on there website which is printed on the bottom of the ballast, and on the box, and on the literature provided with the ballast}

p.s. Thanks, my profile picture is from the day my son was born. Cutie eh? :)

ppss!! Just wanted to add that most users that have issues with these lights, successfully resolve the issue by going back through there install. Many of the issue's that pop up is really lack of service to the ballast's. A 400w hps operates at about 70 volts, as where a 1000w runs at over 200. The 1kw ballast is doing alot more work than a smaller ballast that is just down regulating voltage and current. If your input voltage for a 1kw light is 110v service, you better have sufficient amperage available. Both in breaker and wiring size. Single 15 or 20a breaker with 12g wiring PER BALLAST is ideal for these monsters. Run 220/240v if you plan to gang em together! Avoid cheap timers! user intermatic water heater timers {they are purely mechanical} or cut the power cord to the ballast, install a 30a 110v relay into the BLACK wire, hook an extension cord to the COIL of the relay and fire that sucker off whatever cheap ass timer you want, as the load will be on the relay not the timer.

Are Digital Ballasts More Efficient ?Yes, but only very slightly. Currently, the horticultural industry is swamped by claims from digital ballast manufactures that their ballasts are significantly more efficient than conventional magnetic core and coil ballasts. In real terms, currently there is no digital ballast on the planet that is more than 3% more efficient than a good quality traditional magnetic type. What we have found is digital ballast manufactures are using cheap Chinese ballasts as their bench mark. Its worth noting that some well known brand names in the UK use cheap ballasts inside the box, so beware. Obviously, if you compare a digital ballast to a poor quality magnetic one, you will be able to produce fantastic efficiency claims. The simple message from Maxigrow is this: some digital ballasts (true high frequency ballasts) have some clear advantages over magnetic ones. These main advantage of digital over conventional ballasts is the lamp soft start features found on most good quality models. Over running capabilities and lamp lumen maintenance are other amiable features but both of these are at the expense of more power consumption. The thing to remember is, in terms of efficiency, what you put in, you pretty much get out and vice versa.

And almost a year later......I bought my 1kw welthink ballast from a guy that bought 20 and spoke highly of them. Mine has gone without fail for going on two years now. Just bought a used Welthink wex 150 led panel that looks like it should do the trick too! Go Welthink!

Hate to drum up old posts but I thought I'd mention my recent experience with Sonny and Welthink. After 2 years 9 months of use with my 600 watt dimmable, it blew !! The original seller on e-bay no longer sells anything so I went to Sonny at Welthink. After a slight miscommunication Sonny had me return my old one and sent me a replacement in 5 days total time. Not bad at all. Sonny walks the walk with the warranty.

old thread popped up. the problem with welthink ballasts (at least the digital of a few years back ) is they put out way too much RF interference and do cause problems with cable tv and are pretty much detectable.

You liar, when did you buy from Welthink in Virgina Beach,VA? Why did not you show your evidence?? The truth was you bought from our factory in China.

This is a email, skype conversations between you and your partner with me.See the email you sent to us, see what you have done to the ballast you purchased from our company, who modified the ballasts and complained making these sitting is very time consuming??

Yes, you did as you threatened us in the email you sent to me, you already defamed us to sully our reputation in many public forums!! You liar!!!

Everything I post is 100% truthful, I will let everyone who come here to know the truth, if I am lying, you can sue me and our company as you threatened us 4 years ago. You liar!

Bonnie,

I am ***’s partner in Canada… The fact that you are playing this game over your faulty product is shameful. I am a VERY powerful man on the internet and I will have absolutely no problems documenting our experience with you and your company in a public forum where everyone searching for information about Welthink and your faulty products can see just how you and your company conduct business.

Your email dated July.11,2008.

2) The variable resistors in all the ballasts must be set at maximum settings from the factory so we get best output. That is the market requirement. Presently we are making these settings and it is very time consuming. Please have this done at assembly line.
