Hey there, my plants are about a month old and about 10-12" tall and there are quite a few large useless fan leaves hovering over the smaller good ones causing them to look dried up and curled over from getting no light now can i trim those large fan leaves? and how do i do it??? thanks..

if fan leaves are dead then its ok to remove...otherwise if the fan leaf is healthy keep it on there......fan leaves collect light!hope that helped a lil? now if you just want to crop half the tips off the fan leaf thats usually ok as well to get more light to the lower canopy.

actually, it's not really good to cut them at all, the only reason ppl cut the tips off, is for cloning, it helps stimulate root growth instead of foilage growth.
You never wanna cut healthy fan leafs, they are what gives the plant energy, and you deff need nice healthy ones for the flowering stage, when they need the most energy. But for the answer to your question, is just bent them outta the way without snapping them off, and hold them in place with wire or twist ties.
Hope this helps.
