Default Digital or Magnetic Ballest, pro's and con's
Hello All-
Going to buy a 1000 watt system for my flowering room. I understand that digital ballast's are the new thing on the block. I'm just looking for some "hands on" advice as to what I should buy. I read the manufactures info, but would luv to hear some other input before I make my purchase.
What brand I should Buy? I hear a lot of good and bad things about certain manufactures/brands.
Any 411 helps, dont be shy!
Thanks,
Treemansbuds-

digital ballast are smaller, run cooler, more efficient and can restrike much faster than a mech ballast BUT the have a non linear load which makes them burn more power than they should.

magnetic ballasts are rugged and reliable for years of operation but they are bigger, noisey, and generate a good amount of heat

Any input on Quantum adjustable ballast? That looks like an interesting set-up.

The above post is 100% correct.

I like magnetic ballast as they are very reliable, and are long lasting.

Magnetic ballast are also more cheaper than the digital.

I utilize magnetic ballast and have a digital as a backup. The last thing you need is for a digital to fail and have no backup, while you are waiting for another one.

Unless you live close to a shop to buy one.

Quantum adjustable ballast come with a three year warranty, which is not bad.

In my opinion though adjustable ballast are not necessary. I don't see a need to run a bulb at different power levels.

Hope the advice helps

I bought a 400w Lumatek Electronic Ballast and I love it. Its very quiet and even has a super Lumens switch that gives you up to %20 more Lumens. Best buy is on Ebay they have the 1000w's for around $300 I beleive. Good Luck!

Reason people prob didn't comment cause the first dude summed it up for you. When it comes down to it you should get what you think will work best for you, every growroom/grower is different and have different preferences. You have to adjust your garden to your specific needs. If you require more posts on hetre your gonna get half digi ballast lovers and half magnetic ballast lovers then your gonna be back at square one all over again.
