Default questions about hid lighting
Well, I bought a 400 watt hps bulb a while back. I found out that I'm going to need to shell out a bit of serious cash for the fixture... I was wondering how much it would cost to run it.

I'm not too interested in seeing my electric bill explode.
And I'm thinking it's some serious power, cause 100 watts in an amp, IS LOUD AS SHIIIIIIIT.
I'd love to see what that translates into for light. anyway, I'm just interested cause obviously hid's are the way to go. well, I'm still waiting to see what the buds weigh in at on the led grow.
any answers would be appreciated. but, answers in percentage is best because, I'm not sure how much electricity costs where everyones at. so if you give me an idea about how much further it went up it would be great.

Watts in car amps and lights are a little different. Its like running 4 100 watt bulbs. One 400 watt will not explode your bill.

How much electricity does my light use?
Each H.I.D. light uses the amount of wattage the light is plus an additional 15% for the ballast. So, a 400 watt HPS uses 400 watts for the lamp and another 15%, or 60 watts, for the ballast - for about 460 watts total, give or take. This is a general rule and the electrical consumption could be a little more or less than this.

I meant a guitar amp, but it's all good... I still don't know how much that would mean. I mean if i'm leaving it on for 12 18 or 24 hours a day, I imagine that it's a pretty big difference.

cost about $30-$50 to flower with a 400w for 9 weeks depending on what they charge for electricity where you are, cost the same again to veg for 6 weeks at 18hrs/day.
