Default Heat problems, confused...need ideas.
Here is my situation:

I am pulling cool air from under the house through the air cooled hoods... I am running 3600 watts in my grow room. Pulling air through the hoods with a six inch Vortex fan. The model number on it is VTX600. I looked it up on the net and it says it pulls 2600 RPM.

Now, I am venting the room with a cheaper fan I bought at Home Depot.. but it has 3000 RPM. From what I understand you want to use the fan with more RPM to vent the room, and the lesser fan to air cool your hoods as it needs to pull less air than the fan venting the entire room.

My temps are hitting 85.7-88.0 tops. I want to get the temps down a bit. I never had a problem with heat until I installed my third 1000 watt lamp in tonight, making the total watts 3600.

I am also running a kick ass A\C unit that is mounted in ply wood and installed in window. (6500 BTU) I have that bitch the lowest it can possibly go, 60 degrees and I'm still running into heat problems.

Here is the kicker, I am running temps at 85-88 with the lights thirty inches from my temp gage. I have been unable to lower the lights more because my temps get too high. A 1000 watt lamp should be able to get 18 inches from the tops of the plants without a problem from what I've read, but I simply can't get my temps down.

My plants are currently 9 inches tall, and I'm going to flower within two days, so I could end up with plants that are 18-25 inches tall and I only have 13 inches of head space before the lights are pretty much against the ceiling (they are hung from SunLifts which take up a few inches)

I am going to run into a problem unless I can figure out a way to get the temps down, because I will run out of head room assuming I need to continue to keep the lamps 30 inches from the plants. If they get too tall, the temps will simply be too high in the top canopy area. What are my options?

I had a few ideas... I could perhaps put a six inch hole in the floor, but the way that the floor joists are set up, I would need to make a rather large modification to put a six inch hole in the floor, and I believe my land lord will replace the carpets after I move out and notice the modification (or the company doing the work will) I prefer not make any large changes to the house if possible.

I also could cut one inch off the bottom of the door to the room, so more fresh air gets into the room, but I'm not sure that is going to lower my temps that much.

I was thinking I could maybe put a six inch hole in the ply wood that covers the window. I have a tapestry covering the wood, and I'm guessing the tapestry will get pulled into the room and look somewhat odd to the outside observer. What is a boy to do here? I am thinking I'm definitely going to run into problems with temps\head space if I can't get my temps down but I'm running out of ideas. What you guys think?

Three main things popped into my head. Larger fans? Co2? LST?

I have seen this done in a couple of bigger grow rooms,i dont know if the challenge air cooler is available in your countrys but im sure there will be a similar product this baby will blast out super cold air and costs less than an air conditioner.

You will need one small chest freezer, some silicon sealant and a small piece of 2" pipe,2nd hand chest freezer to save even more if you like.
Use the air cooler in question or very similar because you can cut the lower half off with an electric saw as it contains no components just a tray to evaporate.

1.Cheap ass remote control air cooler, 50.00 (pounds)

2.Cheap ass chest freezer(brand new), 99.99 (pounds)

3.Silicon sealant, 2 (pounds)

4. Small piece of 2" width 12" long pipe, 2 (pounds)

Ok so cut the lower half of the air cooler being careful and marking and checking everything first.
Then when you have done this make sure you buff any bad edges etc.away from the bottom of the cooler.
Place the air cooler on to of the freezers lid and draw around its base onto the freezers lid.
Take an electric drill and drill a large enough hole in one corner of your drawing to fit the electric saws blade into and cut the hole out of the freezers lid.
Place silicon sealant around the edges of the hole before you attempt to fit the air cooler head in the hole, make sure you fit the head in the hole whilst the lid is open at a 90 degree angle so it wont fall through the hole, this will allow you to properly seal the head in with the sealant on both sides of the freezer lid.
Now you need a circular cutting tool for your electric drill,2" wide of course and drill your pipes hole, place some silicon around the hole and jam that pipe in it and then reseal again to make sure that both the air pipe and the cooler head are airtight.
Place a smallish piece of cotton wool into the top of the 2" pipe.
Ok now its built switch the freezer on for about an hour and come back every 20 minutes or so and spray the sides with a demister liberally.
Finally fill some old tubs, with lids on,with water and place them in your freezer.
Now when you switch the fan on it will draw freezing air up from the freezer, the pipe stops a vacuum from being created and also draws new air in from the outside area and the cotton wool stops a lot of the cold air from escaping and keeps out dust and bugs etc.
Finished unit should look like this.

Hope this is of help to you or someone

Interesting idea... I am trying to not invest a few hundred dollars into this as this is likely the last cycle of the year that I will need to worry about heat. Maybe I should try another fan, and put it straight across the hoods... and push the air through? I don't have as much air circulation in there as I would like, but I didn't think air circulation alone would bring down the temps significantly if the A\C unit being on the lowest possible won't even get me in my comfort zone but I'll give it a shot.

Just put a fan at the level of the lights...so hopefully its going to take that hot air and blow it right the hell away from the plants... I'm prayin because I don't have a ton of options here considering putting a hole in the floor is going to require a pretty large modification and I'd like to stay away from that since I don't own the home.

why not put an exhaust fan in the ceiling? itd be a lot easier to repair the ceiling than the floor wouldnt it?
what are you using to get the heat out of the room? youve only mentioned intakes.
are the lights vented to outside? if not then do that. its a lot easier to remove hot air than it is to cool it down.

I have an exhaust fan with 3000RPM pushing hot air into the attic. The hoods are also air cooled with a Vortex (2600RPM) also venting into the attic. Not sure exactly why I can't get these temps down but it's bothering the hell outta me. I figured this A\C unit would be able to keep things under control but apparently the extra 1000 watt lamp is creating alot of heat.

what size is the room?
how much air do the fans move?
is the air temp the same throughout the room?
whats the temp infront of the aircon?
got a pic or a drawing showing the layout?
sure the thermometer is working right?
maybe try removing the inlet to the lights so more room heat is drawn outside?

Size of room : 9 by 11 and then a closet which is probably 6X3. Not a huge room at all, but def. not super small.

I think the therm is working correctly, I'm not sure why it wouldn't... I have one of those wireless weather stations and never have had a problem with it in the past.

When you ask how much air my fans are moving, you are speaking about the fans inside the room not the exhuast or air-cooling fan used for the hoods right? I can try to get a picture uploaded either tonight or tomorrow... but hopefully the dimensions will help you visualize my situation.

Is the air temp the same through the room you asked. When I say it's topping out at 87 I mean in the canopy area of the garden, not the overall temps of the room. I figured the canopy is what's important.

I have two 1000 watt lamps and a 600 watt lamp one one line of insulation, and then a thousand watt on another line (using Y's at both ends) I just removed the clamp from the inlet on the line with the single 1000 watt lamp, I will post in a few minutes to let you know if the temps drop. Perhaps not air cooling the single 1000 watt lamp will bring the temps down in the whole room, we shall see. Thanks for the help paddy I appreciate it man.
