Hey guys, I had a question that I thought I throw out to the forum. I have access to a mini excivator and want to build an underground growroom in my back yard. Nothing to large, probably just 4 1000 watts and the cloning chambers to keep them going. My question is how much dirt will i need to fill on top of the room for infered camaras will not be able to see the heat spot on my grass in the middle of winter. I understand insulation will help a great deal but what would you recommend?

that seems like alot of work.. why not just build one in your basement or build a greenhouse?

Wouldnt people wonder wtf your doing in your backyard?

people rock bunker grows all the time....i wouldn't suggest putting more dirt then to just cover the roof to make it hiddin, dirt is heavy an putting to much on homebuilt structure becomes more of a risk then a bennifit....they sell rolls of infablocker material that would be much more prudent....az

My house is rather small with a large and private back yard.. I have people over frequently and my basement is the area i most commonly entertain. for my circumstances digging a hole is no big deal. i would have no problem doing it in an afternoon then just covering up the dumpster full of dirt.

Depends on soil density, composition, and moisture content. Tough to say, but depending on the insulation you can calculate the distance from thermal conductivity. When you get some specifics, like using concrete or whatever insulation we can try to play with some numbers.

hey az, thanks for the post! that infablocker stuff sounds like a great idea. as for the weight im a contractor so welding together a frame of 2" pipes is not a big deal and it would be able to hold a couple thousand pounds no problem. I was just hoping I would be able to regrow grass next season on top of the dug out ground

LoL!! im sure if anyone could see into my backyard they might think i was a little bit weird.... if someone did see I would be ready with some excuses... ie. gas line leak, or water, or septic tank went. lol i would figure something out in case of emergency

6inches is more then enough for grass to grow on top....a 10ftx10ft is what ya need good 6-9ft deep depending on if you want level or a slight burm....also you'll need an inspector to come by to test where all you mains are....dont wanna crack a natural gas line or a septic tank....az

yea word to that, i was thinking of doing 14x12 and 10 feet deep.... that way i can space things out nicely inside and have lots of room to veg out plants and dry when im finished. I would like to have this completly contained.... checking for lines is definetly a must! thanks for all the replys. maybe someday soon you guys will get to see some pics

one more thing before i forget....your gonna need a dump truck to displace all that dirt....the amount of dirt thats gonna come from what your talking about is going to be huge....so you'll need to arrange something an somewhere to put it...this kind of build would take a single person at least a week to do.....being a contractor you'll know this build will also cost about 5-10k in materials....az

plain and simple all it takes is 4 feet of earth on top of the room with a single layer of the silver sided insilation (siver side down...) and NO FLIR will every have a chance man.

i've seen people make a hidden enterance in there basement to toe hidden room, the only enterance/exit was through the basement.... that grow was using those large steel carge containers you see on freight ships, welded 4 of them together, 2x 600W HPS per container. as long as you have continualy rotating tables you can harvest 20~ plants/week from this. he was getting around a pound a week.

for around $12,000 in materials (canadian) you can put a hidden room in underground, overnight. its not that hard, all it takes is proper planing.

dump truck rentals are cheap, and they dont give a fuck what you tell them. "i had to install a new septic tank, last one blew out the lawn....."

P.S. i would NOT recemend doing this is a metropolitain area, or even a suburb. you gota be out in the country to pull this kinda stuff off without suspicion.
