Lamp Distance with clones

I have two questions....would greatly appreciate the help.


1) I have about 12 clones sitting under a 400 MH conv bulb with a 36" parabolic reflector. ...Some say that my lamp should be 1 meter from the plant tips...some say as close as possible without burning.

What do you guys think?

2) Also...the clones are about 4 and half weeks into veg. The guy i got them from had inconsistant lighting times..and forced the bud accidentally. So they have started to bud.

How long should a clone be vegging before bud? and should i continue the bud...or let if veg under good consistant light for a week or two be fore bud?

test it with your hand. Hold it there for a a min or so if it starts to burn its gonna burn the plant. hope this helps.
