Default How "Clean" does my grow room have to be? Advice please
Hi. I am using an old walk in cooler as a grow room. The walls, ceiling ect are easy to clean, but the floor is comprised of raised steel with inch and a half grooves between. These grooves are covered in dirt. Not "filth", actual dirt. It doesn't stink, and it is damn near impossible to clean thoroughly.

Could my 6 plants sit in hydroponic buckets on top of this surface without problems? Is there a cheap way to maybe "seal" the floor? (It doesn't have to be nice.)

In a sealed room, except for exhaust and an air conditioner, would I need to worry about this dirt causing pests or mold?

Thanks for any help

Can you put trays over the steel racks? Keeping things clean is essential to keeping bugs out. Min of once a week cleaning is needed.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I can put some trays down and set the buckets on them. Would this alleviate the threat of bugs and mold from visible dirt under the flooring? I know ionizers combine particles so their weight forces them back to the floor. Does anybody know if using one in this situation might help control mold particles as well?

Thanks again for the help.

Id reccomend spraying the entire walk in cooler down with some sort of antibacterial componant (i.e. quat-sanitizer or even bleach/water mixture).

After spraying, leave the door open and let it air dry. 96% of bacteria/mold existing will be dead at that point

Also Id be sure to leave the door open for a bit every day to let the moisture escape the cooler. It would be a good refresher for the plants to get fresh air as well that way...

Hope this helps bud.

Yes both of these help. Thanks. If I use a bleach water solution, I don't have to use anything after letting it air dry for a few days do I?
