peyote is endangered, which is why i chose to get it. san pedro and peruvian torch are both 100% legal, as long as you don't ingest them. as a matter of fact, they are sold at walmart and lowes annually.
i was going to have only legal cacti, and wanted torch and pedro for their massive size. supposedly they can survive the winters here. when i did some reading and found out how scarce and rare peyote is in the wild now, and the ancient strains that are now extinct due to over harvesting (takes 15-20 to grow to maturity, as fdd stated), i felt obligated to do my part to preserve the plant. others are doing the same all over the place.
the seeds are available all over the place, a simple search will connect you with many of them. shamanic extracts and errowid are two i can think of off hand...
