Dont ask, "whats the best light out there", ask "whats the best light for MY purpose"

LEDs have worked for me so far, on my very small grow. Understand, though LEDs have worked for me so far, HIDs seem to have better penetration, intensity, and are cheaper. Also, know that most LED configurations dont provide all the spectrums you need; its best to supplement with something else. And they are only cost effective for small personal grows. If you tried to do a large grow you would spend a small fortune!

But, i like what ive seen so far. and the technology will only improve from here.

I compare the LED backlash to the L4 backlash a few years back. When i first got a 4 cylinder car, all the V8 people laughed, and said economy cars suck ass. its not as fast, true, but its the RIGHT VEHICLE FOR MY PURPOSE. People say its not the best car, but it works, and cheaply, so its the best car for me. Those V8 people stopped laughing when gas hit 4 bucks a gallon. HID users will come around eventually. remember the first 4 cylinders to hit the market? They sucked! Now there are some bad ass cars that are gas sipping L4s! Give it time, have faith.

CSI,

We greatly appreciate your input, and your post was very informative. A dollar to me, may be worth 10 dollars to you. Money is an extreme variable for people, to say it is not cost effective at any rate, could be argued with. But I am not here to argue. You have contributed an excellent post, and your information shall be read by many!

Hey all, Newby here, flouro grow first then added 4 CFL's + added 300 incandescent fourth day of flower hours....I am very interested in the LED trials I have read....5 band, the latest I've seen looks promising and will only get better. I am really interested in a 12 volt method. thinking of how bright these truckers lights are getting. Energy costs are going to go through the roof soon enough and we'll all be in the dark if we don't adapt in some way...If not voluntary it'll be by force. You guys were a bit hard on ZZag, I just think he was really curious and wanted to check out the thread. Probably a young dude, just lacked a little tact...is all. Looking forward to learn more by reading the thread....Great Idea LED's will be replaced some day too..Just a thot, (spelling intensional) d

Sabra,

You say your adding incandescent lighting? Thats maybe not the best idea?...
A lot of led systems could function from 12V meaning it could be charged and supplied by solar panels and cells. Pretty sweet. Not that you could not do that with any other light...
We were not hard on zigzag, when the first comment in a thread is "i heard led suck ass", especially considering the introduction to the thread, it is quite disrupting to the overall goal of this thread.

Thanks for your thoughts.
