I kinda had the same problems with our last grow. We ended up throwing out about 98% of our grow.

Hey GFK.
Concerning the gnats you are right about the fact that too moist soil will attract them.
They are hard little f*ckers to get rid of.
I had them last grow for the first time. They love moist coco.
I used hypoaspis, which are a predator mite that eats there eggs.
They were really expensive and didn't totally get rid of them.
I've heard covering the top of your pot with sand with smother the f*ckers and kill them.
Also you can get companion plant called sundews.
Mared Juwan put me onto them. They're carnivorous plants that catch the adult gnats.
Sticky paper thingys work well too.

Hmmmm I haven't heard about the sundews. I knew about the preditors but I don't have the money for those. Now Sand I have hahaha I live in freaking florida like 10 minutes from the beach. Thanks for the tip Mammath next trip to the beach I'll have to get me a couple sandwhich bags of sand for my girl, and yes some sticky traps as well.

Before you kill your plant with sea salt I suggest maybe some river sand hehe.
I've never used sand because it's hard with my set up but I remember reading plenty on RIU about it's effectiveness against gnats.

Lmao Nice save there Mamm hahaha I woulda been pissed if I killed it hahaha. I dunno I might just see how things are when the soil is real dry. I'll pick up some of those sticky traps till then. I'm not watering till about next wednesday maybe next thursday, the soil is still pretty moist in the bottom which makes sense since the roots are only about 5 inches down on this pot by now.

The main thing I see here on RIU is over watering.
It's that killing them with kindness scenario.
It is difficult when they are small and I over water myself every now and again when my plants are starting out.
You'd be surprised how little they need in the early stages.
Good thing your on the ball with knowing the moisture levels of your soil.
Lifting the pot to judge it's weight is another good method to check moisture levels.

Ya the pot lifting method works fairly well although its what I was doing with the BUKU. I've been reading on here about it and the best advice I could find was when you think it needs water give it another day or two.
