I have access to more area, but I am trying to limit my space to the 5 X 7 space, as pictured in the attached graphic. This space would be subdivided from a larger workshop. I plan to use a 600W lamp with digital ballast switching better MH and HPS bulbs. A Phat filter and Vortex fan with more than enough capacity will be used for odor control and ventilation. The walls will be covered with either Mylar or Panda. There is a cement floor, with drain, and access within the workshop to water.
I would like those with experience to comment with respect to my allocation of space. My plan is to use 15 square pots, but could go with another size. My goal is to hopefully harvest in the neighborhood of a half-ounce per plant and grow about 12-13 plants. Given that yield, I think that I can get by on two grows per year and have enough for personal use. I will not be selling or giving any of this weed away. First, are 15 pots a correct size? Second, is 13 plants too many to try in this space? Third, would I be better pushing the plants all together in one rectangle of 4 X 3 and leaving space to squeeze by at the front and back of the room instead of trying to wedge between rows? Any and all help and constructive comments most welcome. |

I would put them all on one side in 2 rows and put your light on a 6' light rail.
I would also grow in water, just a lot easier. But if you prefer dirt i would use 8 in SQUARE pots. Should be plenty of dirt for 1/2 ounce per plant. Last edited by capncash; 08-05-2007 at 09:38 PM.. |

Huh? You mean 5 plants in two two against the back wall for a total of ten? I may go hyrdoponic at some future point, as I have grown veggies with the medium. Figured sisnce this is my first weed try, I'd do soil until I learn the ins and outs of weed growth and feeding tastes. |

Yeah if they were all on one side of the room in 2 rows of 6 or whatever. You would have the rest of the room to work. And your light rail would go back and forth getting better coverage, but that would be $200. Hydro is just easier, but if you dont mind possibly wasting 6 months and learning, go for it.

I don't consider time spent learning a waste and, if I screwed up with a water grow and got nothing, there is a potential for a lot larger waste but, hey, thanks for your concern. |

your second drawing is the correct one. You will want room to work around your plants and there isn't any reason you would have to space them that far apart. The only reason you would need pots that big is for soil grow. Seems such a waste when you have water and a drain available. The one thing you didn't mention, although I'm sure you have thought of it, is the electric. A word from a dummy, don't put you recepticles behind your plants. If you do then put switches for them some where else. And of course you would want to do the electric, plumbing, and ventilation before you put mylar or panda film on the walls.
I built my own flood and drain table to fit the space and lighting I have. Its 32" wide and 4' long, comfortable hold 20 plants under the equivent of a 600 watt light. Heres a picture of it full and empty if your interested. Ok, heres a picture of it if you are not interested. VV |

It seems that some are planting much closer together than I would think prudent from growing other types of plants, but that's why I posted these questions. I can't imagine putting them closer than 15 inches apart. Thoughts? Yes, thanks for the electric tips. There are two covered, double duplexes on each wall - and three circuits serving the room. Also, I might go hyrdo in the future but, again, not this time. |

you dont need 15"between pots if you want a halk ounce per plant, thats alot of light wasted hitting the floor, your second pic is the way,you could even put panda plastic on shower curtians or vecro or what ever to go around the the outside of the plants to reflect all the light in
