I just was smoking a cigarette outside and noticed my backyard is TEEMING with Little Red Mites. I have an indoor garden that I'd very much like to keep free of mites all together. My flower room is about 2 weeks from finish and my veg room has 2-3 week old babies.

I used a product called 3 in 1 Safer, OMRI listed to spray all around the fence and the cracks of my doors and anywhere I thought they might try and move. I also sprayed down these little fuzzball sacks on the fence that I assume to be their nests but there are WAY too many to spray the whole yard.

My questions are:
Are there any preventative steps I can take to keep my rooms free of these little red devils?

Obviously I need to make sure I don't walk in there with a bunch of mites clinging to my clothes.

Should I go buy some ladybugs to place outside around the yard?

Particularly in regards to the young ones I've heard you can water cuttings or dip cuttings in stuff that will make them unappealing for pests but are they super toxic?

What have some preventative methods you've used and what's been your experience?

I've got the same situation. Outside my house the whole area is FULL of those little red devils. They're all over the sidewalks and the driveway and the stairs. When it rains they all get washed away, but they reproduce VERY fast so if it dosn't rain for a while I take a hose to the driveway and the sidewalk. I feel like i gotta do something.
I take my shoes off and give em a good whack before i come all the way in my house. I've got a small veggie garden outside too, and I'm always worried about bringing in some little hitchhiking critters. I try to never go directly from one garden to the other. So far no major bug probs in either of my gardens. I keep a layer of sand on top of the soil in all my indoor plants. Keeps all sorts off bugs from nesting in the soil.
