Default Gypsy's first Tree attempt
Hi everyone...

Gypsy here...

I am starting this thread to facilitate communicating with Master Grower MBlaze as he coaches me on my first try at growing a tree...

Please read this first post ENTIRELY...

My journal is still up (see sig) but it's just too chaotic to follow..

So..

I will be attempting a MBlaze style grow... though a bit smaller to start...

I am shooting for a single plant/600w/one pound grow...

As many of you know, I have only done SOG style, and this is uncharted territory for me...

And since I cannot bring myself to gamble with a pound a weed... I will not be doing any experimenting on this grow...

This is going to be a 100% MBlaze style grow ...

So stay tuned...

I am still in the process of deciding which of 3 girls I will flower...

Here is contender #1

Hopefully I will be able to keep this channel chatter free enough to be able to communicate with MBlaze...

I almost chose to do the whole grow on PMs for that reason...

I want to make it easy for him to help me... but i also wanted to share with everyone...

So, I would appreciate if your comments and questions went to my journal... link is in the signature...

Ideally, this thread would have 2 posters... me and MBlaze...

But I know how it goes...

Well... see you in my journal

So... MBlaze...

I was thinking...

You are used to using big pots right???

What if I used 2 of those blue pots you liked?

One as the res and one as the"pot"...

In your opinion, would 19 gallons for a pot, be enough?

I am really thinking I wan a res below the pot...

I am just way too used to automatic watering to go manual...

I could do a drip/squirt from the top and have it just drain to the res below...

Your thoughts?

First of all I wouldnt consider myself to be a master grower but I do like the title . I just do what I do and if things get beyond me with a problem I dont know how to deal with then I turn to some other growers both in person and online that are much more knowledgeable than myself but you know a lot about growing in general so you shouldnt have any problems.

I like the sound of a 19gal pot/bucket (I use 15-16gal pots) and auto feeding is no problem and something I want to get going next time. I basically do the same thing by sitting one pot in another so the bottom one is used for the drainage.

As for your plant contenders, plant 1 could easily become a very wide plant with lots of colas due to its uneven height so it has great potential for some training.
Plant 2 is another nice one to start with as it has a number of branches to work with.

So basically I would be choosing from those 2.

I hear you...

None of us knows it all...

But I do know that we are most comfort-able in our own sandboxes...

And that his is all new to me...

OK that is solved... I'll hit the store tomorrow...

Do you understand my proposed feeding system?

I may go with a larger res... for stability's sake... I'm thinking 35~40 gal useable solution...

I still don't completely understand your watering/feeding method...

You hand water with your nutes from a pail??? 3x a day?

Wide is good, and if she gets too wide, I can always bend her back in... right?

I like it because I can easily visualize her splayed out in an even circle...

I can picture bending her into a 3' diameter 12" high with very little training ...

Quote:
So basically I would be choosing from those 2.
All right... I'll take some more shots from different angles tomorrow...

I'd like to start flowering ASAP... but I want to make sure I am maximizing my potential...

...

Another thing I wanted to ask you is aboout medium...

Do you think I should go out and buy a bag of coco?

Or should I use the hydroton I have on hand?

Have you ever used hydroton? I've never used coco... but I do know someone experimenting with some straight natural coconut fibers right now... he lives by the beach....

Anyways...

coco or no coco.. you tell me...

and I was planning on using my regular nute regimen...

Non organic hydro fertilizer and h2o2... no additives...

what say ye?

Is your watering system going to be like a recirculating type? Mine is a hand watered run to waste type of setup and I water about 2-3 times a day depending on how dry the coco peat is and I give them a good watering each time. I have never used hydroton before so I cant comment on that. I used to grow in soil but since switching to coco I wont go back to soil. The thing with coco is that you are best to use a coco specific A+B nutes which im guessing you dont have so hydroton may be the cheaper option for you. Others may be able to confirm whether your nutes would give the same results in coco but im not sure.

Yeah ... recirc...

I'll have a pump in the res... with a hose going up through the bottom of the pot... the hose will have several holes and a plug at the end...

When the pump tuns on, water goes up and out of the hose via the holes on it... soaks the medium and drains back to the res via holes in the bottom of the pot...

...

I'm gonna give it some thought and read bit...

I have heard coco can deteriorate and mess with the water pump... especially with h2o2...

So if I go coco... I gotta get the right nutes...

Would you be opposed to me trying it with the hydroton?

...

So yeah...

50 gal res filled to 40gal of bloom nutes... I'm thinking 1400 PPM...

19 gallon pot filled with hydroton...

plant #2 splayed out like a cheap whore...

Under a 600 hps...

Sound ok to you..?

I'd like to have it all done and start flowering before the weekwend...

And so it starts....

with a clean slate...

Fresh new 9'x11' room for the trees...

I'm thinking I can eventually get all 4 lights in there...
