if you are doing a exceelent grow room i think you dont need a smoke alarm.
but it any case nobody is excellent now you are not going to be worry

Depending on your room, you can put it in the room ( not right above the lght) or you can mount it just past your exhaust system as long as smoke could trigger it without having to burn through a wall or other barrer to get to it.

The fire extinguisher - You can get by with a dry-chem " whole house " or " office " extinguisher. These use a dry powder to displace the oxygen feeding the fire. They go for about 10-20 bucks.You don't NEED either of these items.But it sure is nice to be able to handle an unexpected fire before the fire dept. shows up to barge in and handle it for you.Just a safety precaution. If you are a home-owner like myself then I guess it makes more sense.

I am going to pick up a fire extinguisher but am afraid a smoke detector will accidently go pff while I have guests.

I have 2 fire extinguishers, and a 2 smoke alarms. One set inside the room, one set outside. If I'm in there and a fire starts, I'm good to go. If I smell burning and hear the alarm, I can go at it with the one outside.

You could mount the smoke detector just outside the room or box provided the room/box is not sealed.Then you would be able to fix the false alarm without exposing your grow.If your room /box IS sealed , then try to find the coolest corner of the area and slap it there.Most likely a fire would result from a short in the electrical line , or direct interaction between a hot or broken bulb and - I would hope that everyone has a good power strip with auto shut-off incase something like that happens.

I am sure the vast majority of people don't really give much thought to taking preventative measures .I was just in the hardware store that day buying the chain for my light and saw these items at great prices and I figured hell why not.
