Other forms of C02? Does Club Soda Really work?

Watched a DVD on growing.

The host said if you don't want to run a c02 tank another way would be to spray club soda lightly onto the plants.

Wondering if anyone has experimented with using other forms of C02 and what the outcome was on the crop and how often.

Has anyone tried club soda? or the bottle, sugar, and yeast method?
