Angry Please help with ventilating a dr80
I have a DR80 and am having a hard time keeping my temps below 80F. I am using a mini pulsar 250 watt switchable light which is an all in one lamp with ballast built in. I also have a 5” can-fan (206 CFM) that i am using for an exhaust at the top of my tent. my can-fan is sitting on top of my tent and is pulling air out of the tent. i have my can-fan hooked up to a carbon filter which sits inside of my tent. air is being pulled through the filter and out of the tent. I thought this would help with high temps but i was wrong. I went out and purchased a 250 CFM duct booster to see if that would help. I setup the duct booster in one of the ports located at the bottom of the tent to help get air into the tent. for a fan that is rated 250CFM it sure is weak when compared to the can-fan 206CFM. am i doing something wrong here? my tent is located in my stand up shower in my bathroom. it fits nicely in there and is stealth. the ambient temps in my bathroom are around 73F while the temps in my tent get to 86F when the lights are on. i am exhausting the air back into the bathroom but leave the door to the bathroom open. the tent has passive intakes down at the bottom but if they are opened, light will get in when lights are out. i was thinking of getting another duct booster but the first one I got didnt seem to help. can anyone help me out? thanks.

Hmmm. I am trying to picture all of this in my head. I am assuming your shower stall has an opening at the top?

I can't believe it is so hot in the tent with a 250w light. Is the ballast a digital one?

I have a DR120 with an air-cooled 600w light (remote ballast) with one ~250cfm can fan, and the temps stay about 7 degrees above room temperature.

ima lil confused too..your tent is ontop of your bathroom?? and are you circurlating the air in and out threw the bathroom..
meaning..the hot air is going in the bathroom..and your trying to suck cool air out of the bathroom as well???
if so..that could be the answer right there..its hard to suck cool air out of the same room, warm air is getting blown into..id stick a fan in the bathroom if thats the case.

i think he has the tent in the bathroom and is pulling air out of the bathroom into the tent, and then pushing back into the bathroom -- and yes, that would be the problem. the rooms share the same air, and the temp would constantly increase.

unless there is an ac duct that goes into the bathroom. but even in that instance, i couldnt imagine it bringing down the ambient temperature enough.

I have a DR120 with a 400w and 4" Vortex. I never have temps over 80F. Maybe the problem is because
of the warm air being vented into the bathroom like Scoregreen said. You need to vent into the ceiling or
out of a window. Anything as long as you aren't sucking that warm air back into your tent.

thanks for trying to help out. my tent is in a bathroom. in my bathroom i have a tub and shower combo as well as a standup shower. two people can take a shower in my bathroom at the same time if needed. my tent is in the standup shower which is roughly 3.5' x 3.5' x 10' tall and has a door. the door to the standup shower is about 5' tall which allows space to let air in. my bathroom has a vent in it which allows both heat and ac to come through when either the heat is on or the ac is on, central heat and air. i keep the door to the bathroom open to allow for fresh air to get in. i currently have a can-fan(206CFM) on top of my tent which sucks air through a carbon filter in my tent and out of the tent and shoots it out into the bathroom. i also have a duct booster(250CFM) attached to one of the ports at the bottom of these tents to shoot air into the tent. when i get home from work i will post some pics. please check back, i am interested in your feedback.

kristus,

the balast is built into the light fixture. this is my light:

this light does not allow for aircooling.

skesis,

the warm air coming out of the tent is being vented into the bathroom. i have a thermometer in my bathroom and the ambient temps in the bathroom are below 80. cutting a hole into the ceiling is not going to be an option as i have somone living directly above me.

can anyone inform me on the correct way to use my passive intakes at the bottom of my tent. would using them help? i was thinking of using the two ports at the bottom of the tent to allow more air to be sucked in. i currently only have one of those ports open which has a 250CFM duct booster attached to it.
