welcome to RIU!

coco peat is the same consistency as youve guessed it..... peat, like soil.

coco lets water flow real easy, it dries out pretty quick, a mix of about 20-25% perlite is about average but some do a lot more.

personal preference really kiara!

happy growing!

Hi Don,

Thanks for your reply.

I'm moving to a new place in about a month so I'm busy doing all the reading I can now till then.

How is the perlite mixed with the peat? Do you put the perlite at the bottom and the peat on top or do you mix it together before putting it in the pot?

To germ the seeds, from the stores I have been to the only thing I was able to find was Jiffy pellets. As I am somewhere in Asia, ordering nutes and grow mediums online is not an option available to me.

Between the paper towel --> coco peat method or jiffy pellet --> coco peat method, which is better?

I am planning to start with an autoflowering strain, probably Lowryder 2 or Easyryder. Haven't decided yet...

First off it's reusable
And naturally breaks down in 6 months..The fiber will tend to seperate.. But I love to make a coco compost out of the left overs...

Here is my cycle..

I have a hand watering drip system.. I use croutons.. on the top 3/4 layer.. then use 1/4 E-coir in the bottom... For extra drainage.. But I do not suggest reusing the pyth.. I will post more detail info shortly
cany anyone tell if it is safe to use fox farm nutes (tiger bloom, grow bif, and big bloom) with coco coir. the brand is coco earth by OMRI.

i generally cut open the 50 litre coco bag take about a buckets worth out and pour in a load of perlite n mix it with a ladle ( youll probably only be able to reach halfway down the bag but its easy enough to mix ).
To germ the seeds, from the stores I have been to the only thing I was able to find was Jiffy pellets. As I am somewhere in Asia, ordering nutes and grow mediums online is not an option available to me.
germing seeds, everyone has their own way but i just use the between a paper towel method works fine wet the towel n put it in somethin light proof and airtight 2 plates is ideal. check on em in a couple of days, now i generally wait till the tap root is about an inch long, and pop it upto the seed straight into the coco! BOOOM your done!

autos are good but if youve got the space i would go with a normal strain for a couple of extra weeks growing (the tales of them finishing in 6 weeks are bollocks) the extra couple of ounces is worth the wait

happy growing K!

anyone know of any coco specific boosters?
im using the canna coco with the canna line of nutes and all the suggested additives, but on my current cycle i didnt use the boost accelerator but would like to use something other than just my couple weeks of pk 13/14.
any finishers, boosters, ect. that r ok to use in coco with coco nutes?
i know you cant use any shooting powder bcuz it fucts the coco up so you cant re-use it.

I would stick with the canna nutes, additives, and the PK during week 4-6 for now.
MJ is still a weed and doesn't need a lot of extra boosters other than what your using already.
Anything more is overkill and unnecessary.
Good genetics and good growing make for big buds, not excessive additives.
If anything run the boost accelerator towards the end.
It does help to finish them off a bit quicker than normal.
I wouldn't bother running the BA throughout the grow because it really does f*ck all except finish them early.
My 2c.

yea i know, thats the only difference ive noticed as well. mine use to finish about a week b4 everyone elses that was growing the same strain (i was the only one using ba)... now that im NOT using the b.a. i can tell im gunna be in the same boat as them.

on a 8 weeker with one week of flush... when do you think i should use it? like which weeks? or would you use it during the flush as well except 4 the last 2-3 days?

Yeah I reckon you could run the PK through week 4 and 5 then start the BA and run it until the end other than the last few days.
Coco only needs a few days of flushing.

Ok thanks 4 the advise.

Also, xtra cal/mag seems to beef up you r yeild quite a bit although i havent dialed in the exact ratio.

150-250 ppm is recommended if using r/o water but when using tap water its a bit trickier to dial in or may not be needed, but i think every coco grower could use a little extra calcium

is everyone adding some calcium to their coco ??
If so how many ml. Per gallon and how often?
