hey whats up guy i started useing coco too.
well i got these bricks of koko pro
condensed coconut fiber potting soil it says.100%
ive been useing this to sprout my seeds and they have been sprouting way faster then reg soil.and now i have been adding some perlite to the coco.
first off this stuff is way cheaper i think the soil the brick i got was only 2.99 and it makes more than 3 gallons of premium potting soil.and it says it absorbs up to 10times
its weight in water.so far i think its great.

RioCoco's S1 Custom Blend Coir (like in the Green Starters) is a Super-premium blend that is also available in already expanded 1 cu. ft. bags. However, unlike the Green Starter blocks, the S1 in the bag favors the larger chunks of the S2, S3 and Croutons in terms of size with a bit of E-Coir Coco Fiber that has been cut up into short lengths to provide a beautiful consistency to this custom Coco blend.

Let's take a closer look at the mix. You can see how chunky this custom blend is and will be a SUPERIOR medium for Hydro growers of all kinds.

The Green 'n Grow comes pre-washed quite well. The next pic shows Nandro flushing a pot full and you can see how clear the water is running out of the bottom of the pot. By the way, I caught the first water running through the pot in the pic to make sure we could see how clean it was right out of the bag. See how clean the water is?

Right after this flushing, we set the pot on the counter and left it there for a few minutes.

After about five minutes (long enough for a ton of water to drain out of the bottom), I picked up the net pot and was amazed at how little water dripped on the counter. Obviously, this medium rids itself of excess moisture VERY rapidly.

We decided to sift through the medium of the pot above and find the various sizes/grades that are contained in the Green 'n Grow Premium Coir mix. Take a look at this! Over 13 different sizes of Coco chunks are used to create this superior, premium blend for amazing air-to-water consistencies. From smallest to largest you can see the variation in this custom blend.

Don't see any Pyth, do ya?

RioCoco Nest Pot

Last but certainly not least, RioCoco has introduced a product that may very well revolutionize the Art of Propagation. The "Nest Pot"! Nest Pots are an amazing Coir Fiber product that has been fashioned into a Rapid Rooter or Jiffy Pellet configuration now allowing you to enjoy all the aspects of Coco right from the beginning of your grow!

Packaged in their own tray complete with a humidity dome, the Nest Pots come as a complete propagation system/germination station for your garden.

To make them even cooler, RioCoco made little Coco tops for the rooters so that the seed is covered from the light but can break through very easily during germination. Pretty slick, huh?

Premium grade Coco fills the insides.

Here's a shot of the underside of the tray the Nest Pots come in. As you can see there is ample drainage and area for roots to come through.

However, it would be advisable to set the Nest Pot tray (which is about 12"x12") into a regular propagation tray with a bit of water in the bottom of it. This will afford a place for the drainage to be caught out of the bottom of the Nest Pot tray as well as help maintain the humidity level under the dome.

Needless to say, we are stoked as hell to have made this discovery of this fine company, RioCoco, and even more stoked to have helped them get set up with Water Baby's! Many of these fine products from RioCoco are available through Water Baby's now and they are featuring them at low introductory prices to help get the products going out the door and to your garden in the near future. I believe, these prices below will reflect the prices on Water Baby's website once they get them up for sale there which I'm told will be in the next day or two.
  • RioCoco Green Starter Blocks - $8.95 ea.
  • RioCoco S2 and S3 Chip Blocks - $14.95 ea.
  • RioCoco E-Coir Coco Fibers - $9.95 per bag
  • RioCoco Green 'n Grow Premuim Coir - $14.95 1 cu. ft. bag
  • Rio Coco Nest Pot Germination Station - $12.95 ea.

For everyone in the US and Canada, Water Baby's will be the only source for these products. For you UK blokes and birds, we are talking with RioCoco to see if we can get the product to Pistils at Greenstream in Birmingham. We're looking to see if some can be diverted right from Sri Lanka directly to Pistils before hitting the States. I'll update this thread once we know something more on this.

RioCoco's products sure seem to solve the dilemna on where to get the RIGHT Coco and also the problem of where to now get Coco Croutons. Water Baby's is talking with RioCoco about proprietary packaging for the various products. If that does happen, I suggested to the guys at Water Baby's that since Botanicare calls their Coco, Cocogro . . . Water Baby's should call theirs, "Coco, bro!" lol Can't you just hear it? "What the hell is that stuff?", "Why it's Coco, bro!" LMAO I love that name!

I hope this in-depth look at Coco and it's various grades removes some of the mystery surrounding this fabulous, God-given product. For those of use who have been gardening with Coco for sometime now, it's been long overdue that a company has come forth to provide the highest quality Coco, in various grades, to allow us gardeners the flexibility to chose the RIGHT grade for our style of growing and take advantage of the many benefits that Coco offers us!

In the words of our old friend, Lonestar . . . Grow Kind Y'all!

Botanicare's Cocogro will work just fine as long as you THOROUGHLY flush it with pH'd water to remove the small sedimentation in it, desalinize (desalt) the Coco and to buffer the pH in the correct range (5.5-6.0). We have personally used Botanicare Cocogro with good success in Ebb and Flow tables. You just have to make sure that you have rinsed it thoroughly because straight of the block or bag, you will read as much as 300-400 PPM in the runoff water which is quite high. The one thing you might consider is getting an Ecoplus Filter bag like the one below to keep the smaller particulates from running through your pump. The filter bags run $8.00-10.00 depending on the size of the bag.

Until the Profit Disks hit the market (and then went away), longer and coarser Coco was not readily available. The Profit Disks contained much more of the longer Coir strands that made drainage and aeration so wonderful and it didn't contain any Pyth. Pistils has used this Coir in many of his past grows with outstanding success! The RioCoco Green Starter blocks are virtually the same consistency as the Profit Disks Coco. So, all of you that have been wanting the Profit Disks, the Green Starters are the ones you want.

For those planning to do a hydro system with coco & are worried about the coco returning to your res & plugging up your pumps...

Here is another solution you may consider... Mine arrived & Not a chance any of the coco could get out of these... I think they are gonna be my ticket to paradise.

The SMART POT Is a better Growing Container Than a Plastic Pot – Much Better
  • RELEASES HEAT – COOLER PLANTS GROW MORE QUICKLY
  • AIR PRUNES FOR A BETTER ROOT STRUCTURE
  • NO CIRCLING ROOTS
  • AERATES ROOT ZONE
  • DIFFICULT TO BLOW OVER

The very first Coco I ever bought was Earth Juice brand since our old hydro store ran out of any other options. Earth Juice Coco is ALL Pyth. No Coir of Fiber at all. I'll never forget how that went. We were container growing in 3-5 gallon pots with Coco mixed with some Perlite. Obviously, since we had just hydrated the bale, we didn't need to water in the plants. There was plenty of moisture there.

Two days later, it was still good and moist. Five days later it was still too wet to water. TWO WEEEKS later it was still moist and we handn't water since transplant! The plants looked all wilted and no growth had really occurred at all. I thought this Coco was a bunch of crap. Thankfully, Nandro came by and got us straightened out with the Botanincare which, although is still got quite a bit of Pyth in it, was FAR superior to the Earth Juice.

What I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't give up hope on Coco simply because you don't have the proper Coco for your system/setup. The S1 Custom Blend in the Green 'n Grow, or Coco similar to it, would do you well. The drainage is superior in a blend of Husks and Fiber like this and will let you flood more like you are used to. Give that a try, bro!

I noticed with the compressed bricks you need to flush. I've been running the cocogro loose bag of bot. and threw off next to nothing. Great stuff but the loose ground up fibers can get messy with tables but you dont need to flood as much till they get a little bigger. Just my 2 cents.

I would quit cuttin with perlite at all, it will have a tendecy to load up on the moisture and nutes which is counter to one of the primary benefits of coco. The air to water ratio and drainage are THE benefit so when you add perlite with the entent to retain more moisture in the media you just countered two of the main benefits. I would mix the Cocogro bales with a bale of large chips from Empire Organics and run it at 100% coco. no ph issues at all and easy cheezy on the maintanence.
