(if anyone could tell me if this is the wrong hps to grow with or anything please do..)

vs buying 2 85 watt CFLs and a 2 42w CFLs

for flowering 1-2 plants?

Im not looking for good or bad

I need to know what the pros and cons are and what im getting for my money

and does anyone know a way to calculate how much energy i would be using with hps vs cfls?

I mean its pretty obvious and written all over these forums HPS is BETTER I got that down..trust me... but im looking energy/heat/deal wise

oh and im growing in a closet with no vents in or out, its about 5x5 and its pretty cold around here right now, will the bulb heat be an issue?
if it is an issue can i fix it with a fan blowing across the bulb and maybe another fan venting in/out the door?

whats the heat diff from a 250w hps to 400w and for just 1-2 plants would a 250w be plenty and save me some energy?

thank you any additonal info on hps/cfl or otherwise is greatly appreciated

250w will be good for a plant or two things to consider heat from a 400w might not be an issue during winter but itll be SPRING before you know it!!!! i have a 150w HPS with a small fan blowing directly on it and heats not an issue, but for a 250 you might need a cool tube

It depends on how big you want to grow those two plants.

IMO: you need to get them some fresh air to them or light won't matter. I run 3-42w cfl's with a 400w hps. Think even with a couple cfl's you'll still have heat issues with no fresh air vents.

well a 250 wont give you as much bud as a 400 but if your growing just a few plants the extra heat might not be worth it. try to see if you have space for another small vegg chamber because if you dont have to use the one room for both veg and flower you could worry less about growing giant plants but collect more frequnetly

gotcha, thank you for both of your posts im thinkin of usin the 250w for flower, and if I keep the door open with a fan blowing fresh air from outside into the closet and another over the tops of the canopy and a final one facing the bulb/ upper part of the door to get that hot air out? trying to find the best way to work this out...

If you need to save money two of the 150's would be preferrable to one 250 just because of price unless you found some super deal.

Plus light from two angles rather than one never hurt anything either.

Actually it's more about how tall of a plant a light can support, and how much floor area, but you can yield more on a 150 than you can on a 400 if you don't use the 400 right or can't keep the temperatures down, it all depends.

I just replaced my 250w halide with two of those $20 150's and I'm happy. I was going to use all three but didn't need it and it was just extra heat. I grow 2' plants max on a shelf in my closet at the moment, that's all. No big impressive grow here yet but that's all I needed. Flip clones and you will yield around 4-6oz per crop ea 60 days or so.
