Default DIY...Noise Controll....Canfan/squirrelfan....SOUND BOX
Alright lets just say i have seen this done before well kinda..... never saw someone build it or how it all looked just saw it hanging in the room.....well been looking for a DIY on how to do it couldnt find it so .........I made one...since i finished with my box i have thought of even better ways to do it but this way is already done so ill tell you all the ways i thought of how to do it .....

Alright here we go....

Materials
Fan
4x8,or 4x4 plywood depending on the size of your fan
screws 1 inch or so ...not to big or you will split your plywood
strechy cocking - for any cracks
bungies - to hang it from
hooks or somthing - to hook the bungies on to the box
ducing tubes - to connect the fan to the out side of the box
hinges - for the lid
insulation - spray kind, foam kind, sound board, there are many types ***NO FIBERGLASS INSULATION*** read the package before you use it....it might cause fires or health risk or somthing that we dont want to happen so READ YOUR PACKAGE

Grrr not sure how to type somthing then post the pic so all the pics are going to be at the bottom and i will try to explain it... think about it and make it better or fit for your room ....im here to help so if you got questions feel free

1. Take messurements of my fan width, hight and depth....went to my plywood and made my sides, top and bottom ....then cut them out... be carefull no blood hahahaha

2. Get your screws and installed the fan in the middle of the bottom board, i then screwed two sides on infront of the inlet and outlet holes, I used a pencil and went around my holes on my fan transffering them to the side boards......then using a hole saw i cut the holes out of the sides..

3. Then screw all the sides on to the bottom board and use the strechy cocking to fill in any cracks in the corners and bottom...

4. Grab your ducing tube slide it threw the hole on the side of the board tell it meets up with your hole in your fan then use some heat resistant tape or ducing tape and tape the tube to the fan...use the strechy cocking to fill in any cracks around the ducing tube and the hole in the sides make sure its strech cocking or it will not move with the tubing and might break the seal

5. I used some insulation i had around the house to keep the price down haha well acutaly on everything i spent less then 30 bucks well thats besides the fan ofcourse anyways back to it.....i cut squares to fit under the ducing tubes and the sides of the fan for better controll on moving

6. Then i used spray insulation BECARFULL ITS MESSSY i use it at work so im used to it ...im not to sure about the fire saftey its a really hard foam and the fan is all caged up by metal so im thinking it should be fine haha will see ....... (BECARFULL THE FOAM EXPANDS DONT USE TO MUCH)alright i started in the corners trying to keep it away from getting on the fan and made like a little hill on the bottom to the wall like 2 inchs up then from the top of the haha little hill i made sure i had it stick to the wall and not fall down ( hard to explain hope you get it) so now i have the wallls coverd in the foam and a air space between the foam and the fan its not touching the fan well it might be a little but its not coverd ...so if i want to i can take it all apart and my fan will still be clean

7. Alright thats it let the spray insulation if you use it dry for a few hours then your done really, check the lid make sure it can close and hang it in your room (might wanna hang it with out any plants under it for a few) then check on it and make sure your bungies and hooks hold up it will be a little heavy compared to just the fan

AWESOME!!!!

Does you fan get hot in there?

I want one but might add an exhaust (PC) fan to keep the fan motor cool...

Electric motors don't run very long if they over heat...

What do you think?

It would be interesting to have identical fans running side by side, one in the box.... and to touch them both at the same time to feel the difference....

When I do a big clean up in my flower room, I might just do that...

Oh, and any kind of sound insulation would work good too...

Like the carpet/egg crate combo used by garage bands...

Or closed cell foam...

Heat is my concern....

Anyways.. thanks for posting, I will reference this thread to a few people!!!

Merry Ho Ho Ho!!!!

Gypsy...

right on thanks.........yea thats my big worry heat and fire......but my motor is right in the path way of the air flow and im pulling air from the out side threw carbon filters so im thinking the air its pulling in is also cooling it down as it pulls air in well thats what im hopeing is happening.... yea there are tons of ways to make this idea better after i built it i haha thought of so many modifacations i could have done to make it lighter or fire safe.....keep growing....merry christmas

sweet thanks for the rep thebeerstalkin

GypsyBush hmm what i would have done different.... i didnt like the instulation next to the motor just incase of a fire so i would have built somthing like i was showing in the diagram i made, with a 1/4 or 1/2 ply for the boxes and make two boxs one inside the other and the space between the two boxes would be a inch or so and i would have used the egg or the sound controll instulation to fill in the space between both boxes.... i heard thats how they build recording studios......the box im using right now is heavy so i had to make a shelf for it to sit on i was worried it might be to heavy for the small bungie cords.... i would have built it lighter........ for now thats only thing i see i could have improved on
