I've got a 8X8X10 ft grow room and I have already bought and returned two different humidifiers. The first was your average 20 dollar you'd find at walgreens. I quickly went to home depot and spent 90 dollars on the MoistAIR 12 Gallon Digital Contemporary Humidifier. This worked well but required filling 3 or 4 times a day.
Neither worked and I need help in finding one with a large water capacity, I even added a small 6" 188cfm inline duct fan for air intake to prevent my light cooling exhaust from drying out the room. |

My grow-room is just about the same size as yours. I use the "Holmes Cool-Mist" humidifier for medium-sized rooms (model #HM630). It cost me $60 and I got it at WalMart. I've also been through several humidifiers and this one does the job perfectly. On the driest days, I only need to fill it once a day. It's got a refillable Arm&Hammer baking soda filter, and a digital humidistat that automatically maintains your specific humidity. Like I said, I found it to be the best bang for my buck!

Doh! I just picked up a Holmes humidifier at Target today. Didn't even notice its was a warm-mist till I got home and had it hooked up. I'm thinkin since my room is already borderline warm I might wanna take it back in the morning for the cool-mist version.

You should definitely exchange it for the cool-mist model. Ideally, you only want your humidifier to contribute humidity, and not extra heat. Target is pretty good about exchanges and you should have any problem bringing it back for the right one.

The problem I'm running into is that the cool mist I've got, seemingly the only thing that'll work is dropping my temperatures to 58 to 67 degrees. I'm growing when the outside temp is less than 40 in Northern California and the intake is pretty cold. I could return my heater for a larger one, I don't know. I've got a ceramic fan heater that's been working fine untill I finally got my humidity under control.

Alright, I just upgraded to a 3 gallon cool mist by holmes, only problem is that it has a power button as opposed to a knob so it wont switch on with a timer. It does however have humidity % control so I'm curious to see how that does. I'll have to run it 24/7, unless I want to manually control it. I guess I'll have to monitor the temps over the dark period and see how much it adds to the temp drop.

I didn't see much of a temp. drop when I added the cool-mist. I just set it at 45% and put it on auto and it's been working great. My lights-on temp is at 77°F and my lights-off temp goes down to about 68°F, so I've been good with that. My outdoor temps are about 30°F and I haven't needed any supplemental heater to maintain those temps. Hope it works out just as well for you
