Default Security solutions? For creative thinkers only

Ok, so I love trying to find crazy solutions to problems, but this one has me relatively stumped. My grow is in a small closet in an apartment. About 21" wide and about 22" deep.
I'm trying to find a way to, if not lock, secure the door closet to prevent unauthorized entry aka landlord, roommates family, etc. You know, people who would just be poking their heads in closets.
The only thing I can think of would be an eyelet and arm style latch, placed on the inside, and opened by sliding the arm up from the outside. But wouldn't know how to latch it, and I couldn't light proof it either.
-----
I spent some time thinking about it just now, and I have a possible solution, albeit not cost effective or perhaps practical. A remote control servo that would slide a bolt lock into place (the kind you might find in an old motel or something). But I don't have the time and money to invest in designing the system...

Any ideas??

A new door knob would work best but also you can get a slide latch that works with a magnet, takes a little rigging but it works.

Actually I've been looking at those today, I've decided that if I ever go full scale my grow room will have fingerprint or rfid or even this cool thing called the knocker. It sends a fast pulsed knock through the door medium that unlocks the door, and the sequence is a rolling encryption and shit. So its pick proof, spoof-proof, and untamperable.
Though if I was going to go fingerprint I'd want to go high end those chinese made ones can be fooled with even a high rez enhanced photocopy, nonetheless more sophisticated methods.

Can't do any mods visible from the outside. Same goes for any other latch with padlock, or anything else.

Thats an incredibly good idea! Thats the kind of thinking I was looking for. I'll have to try it out.

Buy a locking filing cabinet, easy to add fans to the back where nobody can see them and very easy to light proof. Nobody worries much or thinks a filing cabinet out of place, and although they're fairly easy locks to pick most people don't have the motivation to open a boring filing cabinet.

i think a new doorknob is the easiest or cheapest idea or you could go high teck and more expensive and safer with the fingerprint lock device
