Default 600w Hps... how far off the plant?

How far off the plant would be safe for a 600w hps? it will be in a cool tube.

well, i have seen a grower get as close as 10 inches on his 600w hps grow. on this site matter of fact. not too long ago... given he had great ventilation

stick to the rule of wrist.... wait i mean thumb lol

Put your hand between the light and the plant, is your hand hot? if so it is too close. The usual rule is to keep a HID light 1-2 ft away from the tops but if you got that light cooled enough you can get it as close as you want, as long as it is COOL ENOUGH.

i run a 600w hps with a cooled hood and mine usually stays 10 to 12 inches above my plants. ventilation is very important.

I run a SunSystems Yieldmaster II. It has a glass cover and 6" side vents. I have it attached to a 6" vortex and I can drop it about 6"-8" inches from my plants. That is during cool weather though. In the summer I doubt I could manage that.
