Can I use my ph meter that I have for my hydro setp to test soil ph? If so how do you do it?

Perlite has no impact on ph whatsoever.

Sure you can use your ph meter to test your soil ph. What you want to do is, test the ph of your irrigation water before you water your plants and take a note of it. Then water your plants with the irrigation water allowing some run off and then test the ph of the runoff water. The difference between the two ph figures is the affect your soil is having on the ph.

and if yer doing this to locate an outdoor spot to plant...take tap water w/you in a waterbottle...know the ph...mix the local soil well with the water in a cup/baggie.... wait 15 mins to let it settle out a bit (smoke a joint, LOL)....then test the water in the cup.

Not balls on...but will give you an idea if you are dealing with acidic or alkaline conditioins, etc. and give you a place to start adjusting from.

you can also get a soil ph test kit. This one pictured I got for 15 bucks . good luck~ Oh yeah it also measures your NPK levels.

it worked pretty well and I also applaude babygrow for his suggestion beci=uase thats how I did it before the kit.

I usaully ph my water to 6 ..for some reason soil and nutes elevate ph in water..In my case

if your ph probe is made for testing water ..no this wont work for testing soil
