Do seed plants grow faster? It depends on the age of the clones. If the are already rooted and have started their growing sprut (very scientific language) they grow about the same as seed plants.
I would use the same nute or fert solution as you would for seed plants. I use Fox Farm. But not until the roots are very well established. Then at 1/4 strength. They are similar to growing from seed. If the roots aren't established yet you might want to keep them in a humidity dome and mist the plants. Go to FAQ and then to cloning for more detailed info. |

GraF, thanks for the reference.
When you start plants from seed, you must first raise the plant to sexual maturity (about 6 weeks) and then determine sex (another week or so). If female, it can be flowered or used as a mother to make more clones. If male, it's compost. You have a 50/50 chance of getting a female when raising from ordinary seeds. "Feminised" seeds run about 60-80% female. If you start with a clone, the mother it came from has already been raised to sexual maturity and determined to be female. The clone can then be flowered or raised up to be used as a mother plant. |

With regard to whether plants grown from seed or clones grow faster than one another, that's kinda comparing apples to applesauce.
A clone is as mature as the mother plant it came from and will grow at a similar rate. A seedling is just getting this party started. |

AND you can replace worn out mother plants with clones of themselves... for years and years, if not forever.
I replace my mothers about every 4-6 weeks with clones taken from those long suffering mothers. |

i keep my mothers in a 6'' pot for one year; then i transplant to a 5g pot, and flower it, taking new clones for a new bonzai mom.
clones are great. if only there weren't so many great strains; i'd never touch beans again! |
