These fan really suck- and blow!

My 7 year old 200mm exhaust blower finally packed it in a few weeks back, time for a replacement.

I picked the pictured 250mm centrifugal blower (or is it a tiny little jet engine?). It's a Spectrum Customline C250L made by Hygrow.

The C250 series 250mm body comes in two flavours. It's available as the C250L (low speed) with a 105 watt motor, ultra quiet but still 40litres/sec. When ducting is fitted to the exhaust, this blower is nearly inaudible from 2 metres away.

The C250H has a massive 480 watt motor, around 350litres/sec (can't find the spec sheet, still looking) but is much noisier. Maintains very high exhaust pressure, especially good for those big barrel-sized carbon filter systems.

Spectrum also sell some nice axial blowers.

The hot-rod red bodies and chrome-plated fan blades are cool, but the high quality finishes also increase durability. With heavy duty NSK cartridge ball bearings, these fans should be able to run continuously for 5 years at minimum with no failures.

These fans are not cheap, but they're carried by a number of sellers. Shop around- prices vary widely. You should be able to get a C250L for under $200.

My old 200mm blower was a more typical HVAC type, don't know if it's similar to what you're using. I had to bury that one in foam rubber and old wooly blankets to get it to shut up. Lots of impeller blade noise, even with long intake and exhaust ducts.

The thing I like about the red one is that it's all but silent but will suck the flame off a Bic lighter from a metre away. Nice when you have 2.4kW worth of light in a 500 cubic foot room but still need low noise.
