How much of my 2X8 foot grow area can I light with my 400W HPS?

Will it cover the entire area or maybe only 6X2 of it? All the walls are Mylar'd.

I already moved out the Aerogarden and I'm ready to hang the lamp but not sure how much of the light will be usable along the 8 foot section. 18" are for my A/C unit anyhows.

my closet is about the same size as yours and I split into two rooms (3.5ft by 2ft by 7ft for flower, and 4.5ft by 2ft by 7ft for my mothers and vegging) and use a 400 watter in each room. so if you want to cover the whole area you will need to get two 400 watters and put one on each side of the closet for good results. I have a 5x8 room or so... I have a ebb system 12 plants i guess i will need 2 " 1000 watt " systems?

i would go with 2x 400 or 600 insted get better light distribution.
you can use 1x 1000 ballast and hook 2x 400 watt lights to it. or something like that

2x8 is an awkward space and wont be able to use the light at maximum efficiency, the problem is not the width but the 8 ft length. It will cover the 2 ft width fantastically but after about 3-4 feet you are going to have to raise the light higher, and lose efficiency. It will cover a large area with younger plants to the sides and bigger towards the middle but you wont get as thick, and dense buds or as fast growth rates.

If your set on using 400w lights I would use at least 2, but I would add some smaller, maybe a couple 150w as well just to get better distribution.
