I read an article in High Times or Cannabis Culture yesterday and the guy talked about how he used Metal Halide all the way through flowering. I had always thought High Pres. Sodium was the way to go in flowering, just from what I'd read before. Considering that I'm planning on moving up in the world from CFLs to HID soon I want to know if anyone has tried both of the types of lights on separate occasions and which one they think was better, both in terms of yield, difficulty to work with, and power consumption. You are right high pressure sodium is better for flowering than metal H. High Pressure has more yellow red autumn spectrum of light. where Metal H is more like summer spring type light. With that said there are so many conversion bulbs that provide the best of both worlds. If it was me i would buy HPS and if i thought i needed more blue than find a bulb that has a more blue light. Both are good both get very hot and need venting. Both will produce very good bud as long as you grow it right.
for reference i have a 600 hps and 250 metal H light i use both but that is not a must. Also both have digital ballasts so they can ignite and bulb almost.

I did a test on a 1x400mh and 1x400hps with eyebulb,gonna do another in a couple weeks just to be sure, but the mh taste better and also had bigger buds.Heres a pic of the mh at 47 total and 25 flowering got almost 1oz of this plant.The pic in my avatar is a side branch off another mh plant.Im doing the get a harvest every 2 weeks,so i might do another when my rotation needs plants.I have 8 under the mh and 8 under the hps. You can get the hps eyebulb its a horticulture bulb and has the blue and green light,very pricey almost 80 bucks just for the bulb.Thats what i have and why i did the test,and i wont be buying the 80 buck bulb when the 20 buck kicked its ass.

somebeech, you say you got an oz off that plant with the mh, just curious but how long was it flowering, and whats the yield like for you plants under hps? when your doing the perpetual harvest model are you getting as much yield per harvest or just a lot more harvests?

I could grow 3 are 4 bigass plants and veg em for 2 months,but i like having fresh buds to look at and ran out of smoke when i tried it that way.Never really did the math but i think im getting more this way.Im real bad about giving away my smoke and NEVER sell so i dont really keep up with amount.Obvious more harvest and less yield per harvest,BUT im harvesting every 14 days.Thats the kicker...
