Cool Aeroponic Newb questions.

Ok, so how is everyone doing. I am assuming, in a great state of mind.

Anyway, recently I setup a deep water culture system (my first attempt), and so far it seems to be doing ok. However after observing the plants progress upto this point, it seems that they are not growing any more, and the root development seems stunted.

At this point I relize that I might need to go aeroponic to really get a good crop. While I have no problems understanding the concepts of aeroponics, I do need some assistance in the type of nutrients I will need to make this work.

First off, what type of nutrients does a fogger or fine mister work with? The nutrients I use now are "FoxFarm Big Bloom", and "FoxFarm Grow Big" The Grow Big does not have any particles that could clog a mister or fogger, however the Big Bloom is made from things like Earthworm Castings, Bat Guano, and other solids. So even though Big Bloom is mostly liquid, these particles can clog foggers, and misters.

What type of Lighting do I need? I hear alot about HID, but I am not sure which HID light is best, what wattag do I need.

My last question is What HP of Water Pump am I going to need to get a good fine mist? (I would get a fogger, but they are a little outside of my budget)

Any information you can provide or direct me too, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Atrumblood

this seems strange, great growth and then all of a sudden they stop, i don't think switching your system would be the answer. You should try and diagnose what is going wrong with your dwc, I use the same type of system and it works great. How a bout some details like ph nutes water temp lights things like that?

one other thing I know with me personally the answer always seems like buy new stuff and throw money at it, but this rarely seems to work, in fact if I had originally done what I am doing now I would have saved myself serious dough and heartache, after all the thing I love most about hydro now is that it is so easy, I haven't looked in on my grow in 2 days and I know when I finally get off my lazy ass and do it everything will be just right...

The ph seems to be steady at about 5.8 - 6.4
The Lighting at the moment is natural sunlight from my window, which gets about 16 hours of direct sunlight.

I have a small 10gph submersible water pump to keep the nutrients from settleing, and an air pump with a fine bubbler.

There are six plants at the moment, and other than they have stopped or at least severly slowed in growth rate, they appear healthy. No necrotic leaves, no discoloring.

Also, I have a suspision that the salt content of my water is pretty high, because I have started to notice salt deposits on the growing medium. (Hydrocon clay pebbles)

The water temp stays around 65 - 70.

Also not to sound like a newb, but what exactly are nutes.

I am going to sound like a snob but I do not know anyone who has grown marijuana from the light through a window (I don't confer other than here with alot of peopel who grow marijuana so this may not mean much) and you say the light is direct for 16 hours, can this be right? do you have a ppm meter? what kind of nutes, what is your ppm, have you thought about ro water? I guess there is alot to this other than switching methods, the main thing is to get yourself squared away so you can be smoking home grown asap
good luck

Window is faceing south west with a 45 degree inward tilt towards the sky. (attic appartment with pitched roof). I agree that I do need to get right kind of lighting.

I do not have a ppm meter.

Nutes (Nutes is a common slang term for plant nutrients)FoxFarm Big Bloom, FoxFarm Grow Big

Bottom line is I am willing to make the effort to get this system to work, however as I was saying; I am pretty new to this, and need some help.

Would you be willing to provide me with some advise on how to properly grow with DWC?

yes,
check out the grow faqs on this site they will tell you everything you need to know, also I use the lucas formula google it or search it on this site, good luck, once you figure it out you will be rewarded greatly, i found that hydro was way easier than soil when I figured out what I was doing.
Hope everything goes great!
