So I'm thinking about going hydro, but I dont want to do that unless I can have my air pump (im gonna try DWCs) on a UPS. Anyone have any recommendations? thanks

Seems like if you expect to have problems with power loss and your already gonna buy a ups get one bigger then you think you need and tie a single cfl into it aswell. That way if you do ever lose power you keep the air moving and the light cycle straight.

^^aye, that is some good advice. get more than you think you'll need and it will run your equipment longer in the event of an outage.

high biddyboo.. best way I found is to use 2 UPSs'.

A LARGE one that will keep your air pumps and exhaust fans going for as many hours as you can afoard
(for longer outges) (having agenerator is nice too).
Pumps, air and water, are more important than light in the short term outage.

AND a smaller one for the HID(s), this will prevent: minor power surges and those 30 second -15 minute power outages.
This small one need only keep the light on for 1 second -15 minutes and only the HID(s) should be plugged into the 'battery backup' ports,
anything else can be plugged into the 'suge supressions' ports : as long as the line amperag is not exceede..
A UPS will not prevent fires from over loading electrical outlets.

If your light goes out for an hour it isn's such a big deal, it will start up again when the power comes back.
It is that less than 10-15 minute outage that will 'restart' b4 the bulb is cooled that can screw up a hot bulb. The little UPS will prevent quick restarts..

Here in this part of Florida the 30 second outage is a way of life.
