Default Dissolved O2
Hey guys,
just a few quick questions on my mind. I've got 3 plants in DWC buckets and they're just goin into flowering as we speak(lights go off in 28min). Tomorrow I'm moving them from 3gal buckets to 5gal buckets and I was wondering if I'd benefit from adding an extra airstone or 2 to each bucket. I know my air pump won't actually put out more air or anything, but I think I'm probably near the limit if not past it on what my water can hold. So... I'm wondering if by having air stones right under the roots will allow them to uptake more oxygen. If so, is this because the water will hold the extra oxygen for a short duration or because the roots can take the oxygen directly from the bubbles/atmosphere above the water? I'm really interested. I may even go so far as to get another air pump if pumping it right to the root zone is going to benefit them.
Also, I searched for anything and everything on Liquid Light by AN but couldn't find much more than the occasional "yeah, its great! make your plants uncomfortably chronic". I've been hitting the suckers with it mixed up at 1/4 strength for the last few days and they seem to be loving it for the most part. I'm just wondering if anyone knows more about how it works and any tips/tricks on using it.

Well, thanks for taking the time to read my epic, best regards.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, reservoir temps are aound 75F at hottest and I try and keep it chilled to about 68F with ice, probably keep it near 70F about 70% of the time. I'll try and find out how much O2 can be dissolved in water at different temps. Also, I know I need to bring my res temps down(at least at the hottest times) and my rooms a bit hot too.

You're thinking like most people think, that the bubbles are beneficial to the roots. That's not actually how it works.

The solution will hold an amount of DO depending on the temp. As the DO is used up, by the roots and by organisms living in the soup, it is replenished at the surface, where the solution meets the open air. When the surface of the solution is roiled, it causes oxygen to mix if there is room for any. So the bubbles purpose is to roil the surface constantly.

I've never used an air pump, I just leave a submersible pump running and pointed up at the surface of the reservoir.

your water temps should drop now that you have switched to flowering
