Default Bubbleponics questions!
So I've decided to go full-fledged hydro.. no more soil to hydro.. or all soil..

The questions I have:

1. What size for a mother; will 5 gal. suffice?

2. How many clones, for flowering, will fit into a 5 gal. res (roots); 2-3?

What I'm using:

4x3 ft. area

600w HPS (Flowering)

216w Quad T5 48" (Vegging)

Thanks,
E

Hey Enigma, a 5 gallon reservoir would be great for a single mother plant. As for how many clones you could fit into a 5 gallon reservoir, I'd say 2. From what I've read about DWC and from the experience I've had in my own DWC grow, you want at least 2 gallons per a plant. If the 5 gallon reservoir you would use for clones is self leveling (i.e. is hooked up to another reservoir of water with a float valve to keep the solution level constant), I'd say you could grow three clones in 5 gallons if space for the leaves and branches isn't constraining.

Judging by your light size and your grow space I imagine you will be using a number of these 5 gallon buckets for a SoG grow. Do you plan on hooking all the buckets up into a recirculating system with one main reservoir? That would make your life a lot easier than trying to manage half a dozen individual buckets. It was pretty time consuming for me to manage one 12 gallon reservoir; keeping its pH correct, keeping the solution level correct, changing it out once a week. You would have to do that for each 5 gallon bucket. Just a suggestion.

I'm thinking that one 5 gal. res, four total, for mothers is fine. There is a 35 gal. tub that can be used for 15 clones in flowering. I'm thinking two of those to create a harvest every month.

At first I was thinking every 2 weeks.. but with the limited space I'm thinking about just going once a month.

I'll get a pic up of what I'm talking about.

Im no expert.. but i was able to clone root 6 plants in a 2 gallon rubbermaid tub... it really doesnt need that much space at first... after your plants are 8 to 12 inches tall your gonna flower anyway.. I have to say that i moved the clones over to the big tub (18 gallon tub) when they were about 4 inches tall .. and didnt have enough roots for it to tangle with the other ones... maybe 5 to 6 inch roots ... i think 5 gallon is fine as long as you can still move the roots out when you need to and you are able to be around the plants to ensure proper water lvl... just my 2 cents in this whole crazy world... good luck

I have personally found that a 5 gallon bucket is great for a single mother now if you want to flower in a tub you dont want to use any tub smaller then a minimum 15 gallon tub as the less water you have the mpre your ph and ppm will go carzy several times aday and you will find you have to baby sit all day long. I persoanlly dont like going smaller then 30 gallon tubs for minimum 4 plants and a max of 6 in this size tub if your going to flower in them. Now if you were gonna just veg and start clones the 5 gallon res tub is ok but not to flower more then a single plant in

The plan is to have four mothers and two 35 gal tubs with 15 clones in each flowering. That should be enough space for the clones to last 8 weeks. With a second tub I should be harvesting every month.

I will play with this idea and see what comes up.. I can always cover a few holes and then use a few less if I need to.

The clones will root in a tray and then move to the 35 gal res.
