How should i switch over to hps

its my 1st grow and im going on a rather large scale (60 plants) figured why not go big. using a 60 plant dwc system i built and im currentl vegging im going to cut them to flower soon but dont know the best way to do so. im currently on 18/6 from 4am-10pm but i want my 12/12 to but like from 8am to 8 pm. when im about to switch it over should i just let them sleep 4 extra hours? and how far should i keep my light from the plants. its a a 1000watter

You got it right,pick the best 12 hour period where the lights are on so you have the most time with them,letting them sleep a few extra hours isnt going to hurt anything.
