ask heisenberg, something to do with feeding the bacteria in the res being a no no possibly, I use bud candy in hydro every run.
I read somewhere that said not to add AN Bud Candy, or even molasses for that matter, into a DWC setup, but it didn't explain why. I tried to search for similar threads, but I haven't found anything specific.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Why would it matter? brown slime?

Colorado Amendment 20 compliant! I gave up playing guitar to grow weed, I gave up tv to grow weed, I gave up drinking to grow weed, I gave up pussy to grow weed, I started lying to grow weed, I never gave up pussy.
From what I've read plants can't really break down and use complex carbohydrates like sugar and molasses. However any nasty microbes in the tank will definitely appreciate the meal and probably start multiplying like mad. (brown slime)
I also heard it can hurt the quality of the smoke. You don't want to burn sugar
I am an individual with too much free time, I enjoy roleplaying and fantasising about growing cannabis, all images and text I post are elaborate fabrications created to support my fantasy. I in no way condone, support, or commit illegal actions.
but doesn't everyone and their mother put molasses/carbs in their hydro setups?? Is this a scapegoat type thing for people who let their res temps get too high?
bumpsies!!
The GH sweet, pure cane sugar will do fine....its a great product for hydro
As to the molases question I would check this link out. It's A Fuct World alby is one smart guy.
"plants can't eat complex carbohydrates, but many pathogens CAN. You're growing cannabis in your hydroponic system- not anything else."
I have heard this before, the hydro guy at the store said the same thing, and I'm inclined to believe them, but if it does nothing except feed the bad bacteria, why do so many people swear by these types of products?
placebo effect? marketing? or are they getting results? :P
edit- Also, everyone is talking about molasses, but bud candy is a synthetic sweetener with only a little mollasses in it, right? Especially the new formulation has less molasses than before
sigh, I suppose I can try it out and take it back with the AN return if I don't get good results

People will believe anything
There has been great results and horror stories with using mollases or any complex-carb mixture in hydro reservoirs, firstly if your not using organics then as posted above your only adding food for bacteria, pathogens, and possibly insects. If your running beneficials in your rez, and it's well colonized the break down of the sugars will feed the benes long before the bad guys get a chance to take over.
I have seen some straight up RANK slimey roots come out during chop from using complex-carbs (organics) in a sterile (chemical nutrient) rez, that being said BUD CANDY seems to have been developed for hydroponics and SHOULD not intefere or cause excessive bacteria/pathogen growth.
Thoste that are really interested should be buiilding bio-buckets.
